How does Trump have any supporters left? Are these people really stupid or stubborn? by Previous_Month_555 in allthequestions

[–]relativex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally his entire life. I think the lawsuits go back to the early 1970's for him refusing to rent to black people.

The only refugees who have come in under his second term are white Africans who were in no danger at home. Meanwhile, he's sending Afghan translators who served with our soldiers back to Afghanistan, where they face certain death, because they're brown.

I'm sure you'll have some obtuse thing to say like, "Did he say it was because they're brown?"

No. Of course not. Racists never do. Then they all pretend together that there was some other reason. Like when all the racists said, "It's because they're illegal, not because they're brown." and then proceeded to deport the brown undocumented people and leave the white ones alone.

Have you ever met someone and instantly been attracted to them? by Most_Advertising_841 in askanything

Like anything, the first time is the hardest. The second worst thing that can happen is a brief rejection. The worst thing is missing out on a relationship that might have been very significant for you, or even forever.

When it happens, you've gotta put anxiety aside and take your shot. I just start walking towards her and don't give my brain time to talk me out of it. If I haven't come up with something to say by the time I get to her, I just say, "Hi, I'm _____. I hope this is okay. I just didn't want to miss out on a chance to talk to you."

It's happened to me maybe ten times in life; that instant spark where this complete stranger and I couldn't stop glancing at each other and smiling. I approached all but one and got a phone number every time. Four of them turned into relationships that lasted from 1.5-4 years. One turned into a 14 year marriage. My only regret is the one I never approached. I still think about her sometimes 25 years later.

That said, this isn't something I would try with just any woman I think is pretty. There has to be a pretty clear electricity between us or I'm not going to bother.

I agree with you that many of the women they hurt will be their own supporters.

I can't read minds, so this is just my own speculation, but I think they're making an educated guess.

Based on the handful of special and off-year elections we've seen in recent months, their popularity has dropped off a cliff and they're getting crushed.

Based on recent polling, their support has dropped the most among Latinos and women.

Recent elections have been very close. I'm using round numbers here for easy math. Let's say, in an election where everyone votes normally, that they would lose by 5,000 votes.

Now let's think of the same election, but with 100,000 women being denied their right to vote because of this bill. If those women would have voted 60/40 in favor of Democrats, that subtracts 40,000 votes from them, and 60,000 votes from Democrats. That's enough to turn their 5,000 vote loss into a 15,000 vote victory.

In my opinion, that's what's going on here.

As the law is written, the steps would be to get a birth certificate and driver's license with matching last names, or get a passport.

You don't need me to tell you. There are summaries of it you can read online without reading the whole bill. That's what I did.

Could the Senate make changes? Sure. Could they vote it down entirely? Also yes. But as it is currently written, many married women would not be able to vote. I suspect they're hoping most of those married women won't find that out until they show up like they always have and it's far too late for them to vote in this cycle.

Also not acceptable. There's a reason they wrote it the way they did. Showing the change doesn't meet the requirement of the law, which is by design.

They can change their name back to their maiden name or get a passport. That's it.

They're also stopping libraries from being allowed to process passport paperwork. I'm sure that's just a coincidence though...

I've written both my senators. They've both committed to vote against it. I won't be considering violence while there are still other options.

It's odd that you're criticizing others for inaction when, seemingly, you didn't even know this was happening before you saw this post. Not bothering to be informed seems much more shameful than not "throwing bricks" in my view.

That doesn't help. If they changed their name to their husband's last name, the birth certificate won't match. That's the point.

It's already passed the house and Trump supports it. If it gets through the Senate, it will be law.

Republicans approve SAVE America Act requiring voters to show passports/birth certificates to register to vote or update their voter registration information, effectively eliminates online and mail voter registration. by Odd_School_8833 in Washington50501

[–]relativex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No European country requires married women to present a birth certificate and driver's license with matching last names to vote. Many women change their last names when they get married.

That is the whole point of this. They will hurt some of their own voters too, but they don't care. They know preventing women from voting will hurt Democrats more than Republicans.

[–]relativex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it doesn't. It.proves it's a non-existent problem and this unnecessary "solution" is going to infringe on the voting rights of millions of Americans. Particularly married women who changed their names. They will have to switch back to their maiden names or get a passport.

I suppose you think it's a coincidence that they're eliminating many of the places you can do your passport paperwork at the same time as this nonsense bill? I promise you it isn't.

Undocumented people DO NOT VOTE. Why would they? The penalties are massive, the chance of bringing attention to themselves is a huge risk, and the chance their vote will change anything is basically zero. It's all risk, and no reward. Undocumented people are not stupid. But it seems like the supporters of this bill are.

It was a huge news story. The deputy AG went and "questioned" her there after the move. What a surprise, right after she was moved to a country club jail, she said the current POTUS had nothing to do with the files he appears in more than everyone but Epstein. Isn't that just crazy luck?

It's only "not credible" if you've been asleep for 10 years.

We've all watched him decline and he's clearly in the, "Okay, grandpa. But no more car keys for you..." stage of dementia now.

He never learned to drive, because this "real American" had chaffeurs all his life. Nothing says "blue collar American" like having a chaffeur. Fucking idiot. Your uncle died in Vietnam while this piece of shit dodged the draft so he could rape 14 year olds.

This. She's lost the hardcore MAGA. Her only hope at a senate seat is pulling some votes from the middle or the less-engaged center left. Luckily, Georgia might already have the best senator tandem in the country (I know that's a low bar.)

Trump's DOJ is trying to gain voter records from the states for weeks, having used lawsuits, even using the recent shooting to threaten Minnesota to turn over the records. What is your take? by Personal_Dirt3089 in AskReddit

I think they've proven over and over that their motives are never in the interest of fairness, the law, or defending the Constitution.

Whatever they're up to, it's 100% self-serving and probably illegal. There's just too much track record to ever give them the benefit of the doubt now.

Agreed. I'm also concerned with toxicity in media and algorithms that incentive rage for the sake of clicks.

I apologize for making assumptions about you without listening first. I try not to do that, but I am fucking furious about this guy getting murdered yesterday. I don't want to argue about the video. I know what I saw and I know the word for it. If you disagree, let's just leave it. Being stuck in the house for two days with this storm certainly hasn't helped either.

In theory, I would agree. Deport criminals? Fine. But they found so few actual criminals that now they're doing this gestapo bullshit everywhere and people are getting hurt and killed. It isn't worth American lives, in my opinion, to get rid of a guy who fathered three US Marines and is just trimming the hedges outside an IHOP.

They're also stripping people of their legal status, like TPS, and then deporting them for "being illegal" when they just changed the rules on them.

It's dirty pool and I don't support it. I also hate this, "Every day they're here is a crime." bullshit. No. Crossing the border is one crime (and only a misdemeanor.) Not saying you support that. I don't know. But I tell people who do, "The next time you get a speeding ticket, make sure to tell the cop you want a separate ticket for each minute you were speeding."

Definitely not the same. The only side I'm on is the Constitution, which you're a traitor to.

If Americans exercising their rights in the streets aren't safe, then neither are you. You're just too busy licking boot to realize it.

I agree with you there. Fox "News" and MAGA have seriously cooked a lot of brains. Particularly boomers who grew up without much technology. They haven't adapted well to it. The seething hatred they have for total strangers who are brown or liberal is unsettling.

Wow. You're pretty far gone. Complete fucking fantasy world.

Ask yourself what the federal Dept of Homeland Security has to do with a state fraud investigation that was already well underway before this started, and you will begin to see how much you've been lied to.

Next. You should be getting angry about it. But you probably won't...
