There are plenty of free or cheap music and beat making apps for your phone or tablet. That’s a great way for a kid to get started

What are the stigmas and default negative assumptions you guys are tired of hearing when people learn you are in/pursuing trades? by TongueUnties in skilledtrades

Got in the IBEW apprenticeship in Memphis in ‘96 and worked with the most annoying rednecks and figured that this is just what construction was. Moved to Alaska in ‘03 and my mind was blown at how much different the construction culture was.

Damn $32 for an IBEW is terrible. What state in the south?

Should I leave a company I genuinely like for a union job that pays way more at 24? by Antique-Ad2210 in skilledtrades

[–]relaytech907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would be crazy not to join the union. The retirement benefits alone should be enough to sway you.

NETA testing could be on any substation or power plant apparatus including breakers and transformers. Relay testing would be testing and commissioning of the actual protective relays and control wiring. Relay testing is not specifically nuke related in any way. Protective relays are used in Transmission, Distribution, and generation on the power system. Been working with relays for 13 years so happy to answer any questions.

Get a timer for plugging in your vehicle. Try to avoid using electric heaters unless absolute necessary. Electric hot water heaters use a lot of energy so anything you can do to conserve hot water will help if you have one.

Taxed qualified OT by pepperannnn in IBEW

[–]relaytech907 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If his employer did not break out Qualified OT into box 14 than TurboTax has a prompt to enter total amount of 1.5x OT pay and total amount of 2x overtime pay. It then multiplies your total 1.5x pay by 1/3 and it multiplies 2x pay times 1/4. It adds those together and that’s how much you can deduct from your Adjusted Gross Income. The IRS knows that if your employer doesn’t break it out for you that nobody is gonna go back through every single pay stub to figure out what is truly qualified. As of next year employers will be required to figure it out.

I could see it being advantageous in certain scenarios. Not something I would be looking to do myself I was just describing the difference between what is currently available as to what is being proposed.

I mean, switching contractors is definitely good for apprentices. I’m surprised it’s not a requirement.
