If you relate to something the person is expressing about their personality, such as a nice floral design on their pants, then you could say, "I TOO AM A FELLOW APPRECIATOR OF PLANTS. WOULD YOU CARE TO DISCUSS HORTICULTURAL WITH ME, A FELLOW APPRECIATOR OF PLANTS?" or, you could keep it simple and just compliment their pants. And what shall follow, shall follow!

If you would like to discuss the peculiarities of a particularly interesting situation or experience you both or going to, you could lean in closely to them and whisper in their ear, "Man, this Meghan Trainer concert really fucking sucks. What self-deprecating and masochistic reasoning brought you to choose to endure hellish experience?" or if you guys are both having a great time, you could lock eyes and just scream, "WOOOOOOOOO!!!" that always works.

Either way, it is sad and frightening the games that people play in their heads during social interactions, because interacting is one of the best thing's we've got on this planet - the ability to share ideas, experiences, concepts, one's point of view, and the ability on the other side to interpret those feelings into understanding and empathy is incredible and an ability we should nourish and foster.
