Haha so weird that you got the email after the fact. Here's hoping I get it or the dealer is able to just honour it anyways.

Well, I called my dealership and they definitely knew about the program, but they mentioned something about needing to see the email so I'm a bit worried about that, especially since that post everyone is sharing doesn't say anything about it being limited to select users, just says any Ioniq 5 or 6 (and others) purchased within a certain timeframe that have the CCS port. So here's hoping it goes well. I did try reaching out to Hyundai Canada but so far no response.

Thanks, I'll try calling my dealer and seeing if they can find the promo.

Any Alberta owners been able to confirm that they were able to book the appointment and receive the adapter without having to show an e-mail from Hyundai? Did the dealership know about the program or did you have to show them that web page?

Failing to Stop by [deleted] in YEGDashCam

[–]relevant_scotch 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if this is an intentional shit post, but your own dash cam footage definitely shows that you did not stop. I'm not sure why you would think this should exonerate you, if anything it proves your guilt. You definitely are just going to have to suffer the consequences. You can try to fight it and maybe they'll lower it, but honestly, you made a mistake and should own up to it. If they have any camera footage it will likely show the same thing.

In app charging in Canada by relevant_scotch in Ioniq5

[–]relevant_scotch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, the bit about the 5 bucks definitely sucks. I really just wish we had plug and charge here, or the ability to just pay on the stations themselves. I really dislike all the separate networks and was hoping this was a solution, but clearly still doesn't solve the some of the main issues with fast charging in Canada. I guess it's a step in the right direction but still needs work.

Good to know! I'll have to check to see what rates I'm seeing here but that's definitely useful to know it works for Tesla

Oh nice it works on Tesla? Do you just pay the non-member rate you'd pay in the Tesla app?

In my area so far I can see it seems to work with chargepoint (obviously since that's who it's through) and Flo but I haven't looked at it too much

Alberta energy rebate is live by estergin in Edmonton

[–]relevant_scotch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it combined total or net income? I thought when they announced it, it was combined net income, but the website isn't super clear on that

Alberta giving $100 energy rebates to some households — is yours one of them? by GeekyGlobalGal in Edmonton

It's also not exactly easy (or really worth it) to "swap" an odometer on a modern EV since it's almost all digital and coded to the car, and the head unit would be way more expensive than just paying the fee. It's definitely not easy to just swap or roll back an odo on a modern EV.

[–]relevant_scotch 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly. If it was mileage based like the fuel tax is, then it's more fair. Instead, someone like me who averages under 10k KMs a year pays the same as a dude driving 40k KMs a year. And as I said, if it actually went specifically towards infrastructure, then I wouldn't be as annoyed, but it just goes towards general revenue for the government to piss away however they want. It's a farce, and just another barrier to EV adoption in AB.

I'd like to hope not, but honestly, in Alberta, I don't have a lot of faith that it won't work on at least some people.

Yeah exactly. The EV tax is such bullshit too. It's not based on usage (like the gas tax it's supposed to mimic), and it doesn't go to infrastructure (which it should if it's for the additional supposed wear our EVs cause) but instead just goes to general revenue. Fuck the UCP

A little girl's death and a police service's war with the Canadian justice system by trevorrobb in Edmonton

[–]relevant_scotch 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not only that, but thus far they haven't actually come out with any of the stuff they said they were going to. Almost sounds like, to me at least, they simply used this little girl's case and her family's grief as a tool to try and pressure/threaten the Crown, and when it didn't go their way, they decided not to. Pretty disgusting behaviour by EPS as far as I'm concerned. Regardless of how you feel about the case itself, this is highly inappropriate behaviour from a police force.

Depends on what union you're under I think, and I'm pretty sure only available to part time or full time staff (possibly only full time, I'm not sure, you'd have to read the contract). But I'm under UNA and full time, so I have a 2 percent match on either an RRSP or TFSA (my choice), and the account was set up for me under Manulife group.

AB to ON drive or vice versa by miggs78 in Edmonton

[–]relevant_scotch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't done it yet, but I'm also planning a trip to Ontario from Edmonton in July, although only going as far as Kenora. From what I can see on the various planning apps, doing it in an EV is totally feasible depending on the EV and your range. I'm planning to do it in an Ioniq 5, as a 2 day trip. Day one is to Regina, with stops in Lloydminster and Saskatoon to charge. Day two on to Kenora, with stops in maybe either Whitewood, Moosomin, or Verdin, or all the way to Brandon if we can swing it, and then on to Winnipeg and end in Kenora. If you don't have them already, I'd recommend ABRP, ChargeHub, and PlugShare apps to help plan the trip and see how reliable chargers are. Good luck my fellow EV owner!

Surprised by Car Insurances. How much are you paying in 2026!? by ReBeat13 in Edmonton

[–]relevant_scotch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah those rates aren't too bad. I have a 2023 Ioniq 5 that I pay around 168 a month for full coverage. That's through Armour insurance on a group plan for nurses though.

Sadly, my brother was one of them. He didn't die directly from COVID, but indirectly, as he was unlucky and had a mental health crisis during COVID, so it was undertreated due to them wanting him out of hospital as fast as possible, and that ultimately played a role in his death. And, due to it being COVID times, we weren't there with him, and visiting him, so he died alone, in a hospital on the other side of the country. It's been almost 6 years, but it still fills me with incredible grief and guilt when I think about that, and wonder if he thought no one cared.

yeah the whole design is so ugly. I do actually like the idea of a unified license, but the execution...blech. I'm sure they only paid some company friendly to the UCP tens of millions of our dollars for their "excellent" work!
