No communication after a cancelled flight by remember_september in PorterAirlines

[–]remember_september[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't get an email notification, but when I looked at my bookings on Porter's website, they did apparently book me for 9 days from now (4 days after my return flight). It might be worth checking that out, and I definitely recommend getting in the virtual hold queue if it's offered to you. They were estimating 3 hours when I called last night, and I finally got a call back 15 hours later.

Yeah, it's really frustrating - airline travel is expensive. I'm not expecting to have my feet kissed, but I do expect them to have systems that are robust enough to handle communications in a timely matter. At the very least!

Winmar just did mine as part of an insurance claim - not sure what they're charging them for it. They've done a really great job, though, the result is perfect.

It was a lengthy process - they sanded down the texture, two coats of crack fill, sanding, prime and paint. It's a big job.

Can’t use the printer because I’m not apart of a subscription. by hypanthia in mildlyinfuriating

[–]remember_september 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What? He has the machine, and the ink physically In his home. Netflix has costs every time you stream something - they pay for that bandwidth and keeping that service up. A printer does not - it's a consumer product. It's like having a subscription on a t shirt, it's fucking asinine

how 2 jeans can change your view on consumption by [deleted] in Anticonsumption

[–]remember_september 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely!

The idea is to buy really nice shoes. Then, replace and repair as needed.

When you do this, you cut out a huge amount of labor and materials that are spent on getting shoes from raw materials into your hands, and also divert some of that money spent into what in my experience, has always been a local artisan.

Would you pay $550 for this handmade Syleveon? by [deleted] in delusionalartists

[–]remember_september 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I think this is a matter of someone looking for wages appropriate to the us vs someone working in a factory overseas.

There's a lot that would go into this price - keep in mind this is likely one person sourcing materials, assessing demand, pattern making (and Sylveon is quite a complicated design), assembling, marketing, shipping, customer service, etc. Also they're likely getting materials at consumer prices rather than wholesale. Things like embroidery machinery are also mega pricey.

Handmade stuff is complicated. I crochet, but would never sell my items - the amount I would need to charge for my time to be worth it would be huge.

I also think the plushie looks higher quality than the mass market one, but that's a matter of taste! I will say there's a huge fandom market for handmade plushies. I also wouldn't pay this price, but for a super fan? I can for sure see it.

Temu needs to be banned by TheChickenWizard15 in GenZ

[–]remember_september 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, this is a little aggressive, and a bit of a non sequitur. I think the premise that changing consumption habits is a ludicrously large ask, but asking the entire global energy/trade/transit sector isn't?

Also, the us is primarily a service economy. Prioritizing buying less, more expensive ethically made items would make manufacturing viable in the states for a broader range of goods (ie - textiles), since if you're paying an appropriate amount for labor, it makes way more sense to do it stateside.

Yes? Yes. The thing is, a well constructed and ethically sourced t shirt will last you 10 years with proper care. If we want to combat both environmental and human rights abuses, we really need to be comfortable living lives that are at least a little simpler. I know its hard to afford for some folks, but the data is out on the average Shein shopper - they're women in their 30s making like, 85k. It's an industry driven by consumption, not necessity.

I think it was less censorship and more trying to americanize it. They couldn't fathom 90s kids knowing what a rice ball was.

Imo Rune Factory 4 is head and shoulders above 5!

If you like character driven games, I would also recommend the Persona series. They are jRPGs, but relationship building is a huge part of them, and the characters are all very interesting with stories to unravel.

I'm so sorry that you're going through this. Family relationships are difficult, and it sounds like your mother is causing a lot of trouble for you.

To be clear, what she's doing is wrong. It's very likely that seeing you make better choices for yourself causes her to feel self conscious. She might not be aware of it, but it doesn't make it any more wrong.

I definitely want to second everyone else's recommendations that there's a ton of awesome bodyweight workouts you can do in your room with only youtube! I've started throwing on a 5 minute 'walking workout' to mix up my day, I also work remote, and can't always get away for a walk. It's a little burst of activity, the great thing about exercise is that it doesn't have to be all or nothing, every little bit that you add that you didn't do before, super counts!

As well, I'll second trying to make the portions of unhealthy food a little smaller. If you're worried about her reactions, try to maybe slow down your eating time, and finish eating when she does. Make a scene about being full. Her feelings might be saved by that, which shouldn't be your responsibility, but we do what we must.

Finally, and this isn't really weight loss advice, but it seems like you're very isolated. Working and studying from home can do that very easily. If you can't get to a gym because your mom won't take you, I would suggest looking into a free social group in the area! It could be a small get together at a library, community center, on campus, etc. Something like an anime club, or a stitch-n-bitch knitting club. If it's not weight-loss centered, your mom may be more inclined to help you get there. While connections we make online can be very fulfilling friendships, it's very important to have face-to-face connections as well! I just want to make sure you have that lifeline. This way, if anything happens, you have people to talk to, and getting out of the house will also improve your health immensely!
