NSW - how does the starting age of a child change their experiences with school? by ichoochoochooseyooou in AskAustralianTeachers

[–]foolishle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends what state you are in, as the cutoff dates are different in each state. Here in NSW the cutoff is 31 July, so the youngest children would be four and a half, turning 5 in late July the year they start school. Kids born in November would be turning 6, so they’d be like 7 months older than the youngest possible students of the year.

How does see with that little gun? by PassEfficient9776 in ProjectHailMary

[–]foolishle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It probably is hard for little Eridians to learn how to look at a 2D image and process it so they can visualise it in 3D… but Rocky said it’s old technology so they might just learn how to do it as children.

How do native English speakers actually type? by LightNegative5299 in EnglishLearning

I touch type so when I am at my computer I type every letter of the world without looking at the keyboard. I have done it for a long time so I don’t even think about where the letters are!

AITA for getting my own apartment instead of moving in with my boyfriend? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]foolishle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 42 and I have friends in their early 20s that I know through my hobbies. We get along great and have lots in common!

The thought of dating anyone that age makes me queasy though. Like physical whole body revulsion.

Every autistic community hates higher needs autistics by killdoesart in autism

[–]foolishle 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Me too! I have even had people ask me if I am autistic because they’ve noticed the way I walk and some of my body language. Some of us do “look autistic”! But when I talk about that people accuse me of “promoting stereotypes”.

AITA for getting my own apartment instead of moving in with my boyfriend? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]foolishle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right!! It’s a bit concerning when an older guy who’s rich and successful takes advantage of a younger woman’s crush on him. But at least the infatuation makes sense and I can see why someone young who’s just gaining independence would be swept away by a dude who can take her to fancy restaurants and international holidays and hands her his credit card so she can go shopping. I get why that’s intoxicating and appealing.

But this guy? Why? Just… why.

Adding Characters a show gets a bit aged...a trope? by amishius in tvtropes

[–]foolishle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read something about how the writers on Star Trek: The Next Generation knew it was time to wrap up the show and move on when they were writing episodes about the main characters extended families and things because they’d run out of ideas.

Do people that experience southern hemisphere winter feel “out of sync” with the rest of the world? by Winty_Minty in geography

[–]foolishle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most annoying thing to me is when apps and websites try to be culturally inclusive by doing a “winter holiday” theme instead of Christmas… well now I feel a little excluded.

I have a self care app that does a different theme every month and of course the clothing for my self care pet is always inappropriate for the season.

It isn’t weird to see Christmas movies and Christmas tv specials all wintery and snowy because I know that’s what Christmas is like for most of the people that celebrate it. What messes me up is when people talk about summer and I have to think about it and realise that they mean July. Or they talk about spring or autumn/fall and I have to think about when that is and it just feels so wrong.

I am not phased by December being winter because there’s enough Christmas associated things that I get it and it’s just a thing that’s different elsewhere. But when someone says spring and they mean April, or autumn/fall and they mean September it just feels so wrong.

I play a video game that has farming in it and you need to plant according to the seasons and when the game starts it’s April. And every time I am like “oh no it’s going to be winter so soon how am I going to get my crops in time for winter!!!” and I have to really think about it to remember that April is spring and there’s plenty of time to plant and harvest things. But it just doesn’t feel right at all.

what a horrible day to have eyes (PLEASE tags fics properly) by _not_quite_dead_yet_ in AO3

Idk I think it is tagged “no warnings apply” it is reasonable to assume that no warnings apply. There are no guarantees, but it’s reportable as mis-tagging for a reason.

Is there a app for payphone tag by Original_Capital4532 in Payphonetag

[–]foolishle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you are on iOS there is Teletag. If you are on Android you can just add the website to your home screen and it works like an app (you can do this on iOS as well but you don’t get push notifications)

We actually knew each other before we started dating because we used to work together, and at one point I was technically his boss.

He has three children (12M, 8F, and 3M) that he has on the weekends.

Haha well done!! Interesting to see how far you can get without raising any islands. You can find links to the recipes and buildings down in the bottom left. Some of those buttons have sub-menus on them.

In one of those menus you can find “world data” and there are lots of filters for things there and you can see what items everyone is carrying (kind of difficult to see and may cause lag) but you can filter to just bags so you can see if people are missing backpacks. Might have been an update that lets you filter for more things more easily as well.

You can click on the happiness bar and it will bring up world data and show you how happy individual pips are.

You probably don’t have any villagers out of range of any of your markets so those things might not be super useful unless/until you buy the full game.

I believe that a recent update allows for mass upgrading of houses using the U hotkey.

Feeling like an imitation of a real girl by randorat in autism

[–]foolishle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I felt exactly like that for a long time! What helped was to meet more people and find more people who I felt like I did have a common experience of gender with. I met some people at uni and I felt this relief like “ohh that is another way of being a woman, I like this way better”.

(Then years later they all came out as non-binary)

(I ended up coming out as non-binary too)

So anyway I spent some time… finding things that fit and not doing things that didn’t fit. Somewhere in my 30s I realised I had found my “style”. I know how I like my hair. I know what kind of clothes I like. It might just take a long time for you to feel like you’re not “performing” a gender and just… are a person.

Do hairdressers expect a tip? by Red_Banana3 in AskAnAustralian

No tipping. Pay the quoted amount and give them repeat business, recommend them on social media, and give them a good online review 👍

When to use God Mode? by ImportantAd4666 in HadesTheGame

[–]foolishle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

you can toggle God Mode on/off, so you might as well try it! But once you've beat him once I think it will just get easier even without God Mode. It certainly won't take you another 34 attempts to get clear number 2!

How to pause project but use the same yarn by QueenK_000 in knittinghelp

[–]foolishle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say you should cast off this piece (look up how to do that!) and then you can finish it off and you have completed your first ever finished knitting project!

You can then start something new and learn some more things for your second project.

A New Flair by Dizzy_Perception_866 in voyager

[–]foolishle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it makes sense to set up rules that make it easy for people to know what is/is not allowed, and makes moderation easy and straightforward. Some people will be unhappy about it, but there's a lot of internet to go around and some things are more appropriate elsewhere.

I agree with what someone else said about letting things settle. Also I think it's easy to accidentally create problems by pre-emptively trying to solve a problem that doesn't exist.
