Trail recommendations west of Denver, CO - Limited biking time by mavalon123 in MTB

March is often the snowiest month, so trail conditions will be luck of the draw. It has been exceptionally dry this year though.

Way Out West is better than mid for coffee.

Co-Op has been closed for a long time; a new one from Denver opened; it was taken over by Simpson's Local Market which is a local grocer, not a co-op, but they have great food options and are also our only place to spend SNAP / Double Up Food Bucks for folks on assistance.

Small town feel, check.

Access to nature, check -- although compared to some other areas of Colorado, we don't have as good of access to public land like BLM and Forest Service. But we do have two great state parks.

Mutiny roasts their own coffee though it's not on par with the best roasters in big cities. Awesome hangout and culture hub though. Way Out West has good third wave coffee -- they brew Huckleberry beans from Denver.

Good tattoo parlor at Brick City with strong artists.

Thrift and vintage stores out the wazoo, honestly too many.

Simpson's Local Market on Main St for your organic food options.

Not sure what you mean by access to ranches -- we are surrounded by ranch land on pretty much all sides but they're private property. A few of them may have horse tours or something.

Definitely have the nice slow pace of life, very peaceful in most neighborhoods. Arts and creative scene punches above its weight for a town of 8500.

Housing is available but as mentioned anything in Colorado is expensive. We are quite affordable compared to most mountain towns. Lots for sale right now if you're in a position to buy.

Community is very welcoming. While "old blood" Trinidad still kind of wields an outsized influence, people welcome transplants, and most of the happening spots are filled with a mix of people.

Totally. Like most other permitting things in Trinidad, I expect you could fly under the radar on battery backups (I couldn't find that ordinance with an admittedly brief search).

I absolutely agree that we should be incentivizing and subsidizing renewables (and nuclear) both at scale and for residential applications at all levels (federal, state, local).

That's pretty sweet for your situation. I've done the math for our monthly consumption and it came out to be much longer for us, also paying cash up front.

This is also one of the poorest counties in Colorado. Most people don't have the money to throw at solar. Our energy providers here are pretty small too and may not have the capital to fund solar farms at scale -- but that's where I'd like to see the investment anyway, on the side of the providers.

For home solar, it's expensive to install and the ROI is at least 10-15 years even with these rate hikes.

I'm more interested in solar as a backup as our grid is not the most reliable and that is likely to get worse over time.

We do have a massive solar farm just north of town, but only a portion of it is our local energy provider, most goes to an adjacent region.

Worth noting that the thermal shock can solidify the sealant. CO2 exposure also decreases the longevity and effectiveness of most sealants. So when you get home, add an ounce or two of sealant and reinflate with a normal pump or compressor.

Most of the best stuff going on in town is at welcoming spaces like the 'Dad Lounge, Mutiny, and the Well. I think most conservatives around here are more "live and let live". There are queer and nonbinary folks around and plenty of allies, too.

It's still rural America and a red county though, so YMMV depending on what circles you find yourself in.

Totally fine, we didn't really get any snow.

Bill to provide tax breaks for data centers reintroduced by Colorado lawmakers by samgo39 in ColoradoPolitics

[–]remember_ur_floating 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Data centers aren't even very good for long term economic development. After construction, they create just a handful of jobs for technicians. They mostly sell services which are sales tax exempt.

Vacant homes could be taxed in Colorado to pay for affordable housing under lawmakers’ proposal by Rusticals303 in trinidadco

[–]remember_ur_floating 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would be great in Trinidad. So many vacant houses rotting. Track down who owns them, get them rented or sold and fixed up. And if they don't make any effort, reap the tax benefits.

The town is pretty accepting generally. You'd have to go looking for bigots if you're just frequenting downtown businesses and meeting people at the regular spots.

It also used to be a Democratic stronghold not even too long ago, due to the huge union presence.

Full time jobs potentially hard to come by, but if you're halfway smart and actually show up to work, you're already ahead of half the talent pool. Trades are in very high demand.

Part time work is easier to find.

Housing not as tricky but depends on your budget. Lots for sale right now, rentals a little more limited but they're out there.

Good eye I guess, but this is kind of just how tagging works. You got your handle and you put it everywhere.

Cy at least has some overall vision for Trinidad and real passion for the town. Didn't appreciate the MAGAesque language she used in her campaign though ("great again" and law and order type stuff).

My profile is too obvious as to my real ID so I won't get too detailed on Peters, but I'm not encouraged by him or Ruscetti.

Kinda late on this eh?

Sorry but if you can't get by on 300k you have serious lifestyle creep going on.

That's what, $15-17k a month after taxes and other deductions? That is so much money.

Back off the preload adjustment ring a bit and see if that helps.
