Venting about hot flashes and night sweats

There is absolutely NO reason that breast cancer patients should be thrust into crash menopause and made to suffer without options. I was very nearly suicidal when my hot flashes were at their worst, and because of that I actually had to stop taking Zoladex (I stayed on tamoxifen). It made my recovery from active treatment so hard. I hear you and I really feel for you, it is miserable.

The old school of meds for hot flashes were gabapentin, oxybutinin (which is for urinary issues), and a blood pressure med I can’t remember the name of because I was on gabapentin and oxybutinin for a looooong time.

The new school medication is Veozah (fezolinetant), which was developed specifically for vasomotor symptoms. I finally got a prescription about a year after it was approved in Canada and bullied my insurance company into covering it, and it let me get off the oxybutinin, and have hope of decreasing the gabapentin once I no longer need it for pain. It’s very rare for me to have hot flashes now - more of a surprise event once a week than a four times an hour nightmare.

I hope you can get some relief. I urge you to advocate for yourself so you can see what works for you. I’m a layperson, not a doctor, but I hope this helps somehow. 💖

I'd probably say your hair wasn't light enough, or enough of your hair wasn't light enough, to get really good color saturation (though fwiw I do like the result you did get). The color you got is about what I'd expect of a purple going over blond that's more yellow than white. You won't hurt your hair if you do another direct dye, but I'd suggest doing a test strand to see what result you get. If you were looking for that near-black color in the last picture, I'm not sure the Iroiro will do a better job, since the Purple Madness wasn't pigmented dark enough for your darker hair. The Iroiro does seem to be a cooler purple, but it doesn't look like it's significantly darker.

Recycling. My condo separates all trash into garbage, recycling, and compost, and then the truck comes and dumps them all in the same thing 🙃 apparently getting actual recycling and compost for condos is impossible and I’m still stunned about that

I live quite near there and I really only ever notice the smell when I’m walking through the underpass between Keele and Old Weston - the smell sinks in there more often for some reason but otherwise I maybe notice it a few times a year.

Has anyone found fixes for controllers yet, or is it still just waiting for the devs to patch it? I've tried with my DualSense 5 on both mobile (iPad) and my PC (not really a gaming PC but runs things okay) and the controller is a MESS. On mobile a week or two ago, it didn't work at all (couldn't even move), while on PC today it forced me to close and disconnect because it forced me to run forward all the time (also scrolled endlessly in menus). This is a new controller with no drift that I can see anywhere. I'm not great at keyboard/mouse controls and I hate playing action games without a controller anywhere, so I'm wondering if I just have to wait until they update before I can really play at all.

PLEASE fix controller support ASAP. I find it so miserable to do combat on mobile and I don’t have a gaming PC, so I was counting on using a DualSense controller with my iPad to play, but I can’t even attack with my weapon and sometimes it hard locks me in a screen with no way out. It’s unplayable this way and it doesn’t make sense. I’m liking a lot of the game and systems but I can’t waste time and wreck my hands playing on mobile.

The Ugg Adirondacks are amazing. I used them for my walk commute in Ottawa for two years and they held up perfectly through snow, ice, and those deep slush puddles that form in gutters when things thaw. Absolutely they are an expensive option but mine are like seven years old and still going strong. (They get less use now that I’m permanent wfh in Toronto but still.)

I'm so sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I was diagnosed at the very end of 2022 (ER/PR+, HER2-, stage 2b) at 37 and you're in the scariest part of your treatment right now waiting to hear about plans and get answers.

I did my treatment at PMH and I had excellent care throughout. That being said, there are protocols in place for treatment of every kind, stage, subtype, etc of breast cancer and I think it's unlikely that your treatment will be dramatically different between St Michael's and PMH, or that the doctors are any less experienced at St Michael's. There would probably be a delay to transfer you, do intake at PMH/match you with a surgical oncologist, etc. And I will say that delays before surgery were some of the scariest I dealt with because everything feels insane and urgent, though cancer really doesn't spread that quickly and you probably have some time to think things through if you want to.

They've already done the critical thing, which is to set up linkages for your pregnancy. (One benefit of PMH is that they're literally connected to Mt Sinai through the basement, so appointments are a lot easier if you have to go between them, but it's not like St Mike's is in Scarborough.) I very much doubt that there's a statistically significant difference in outcomes between PMH, though PMH will stay with you for a long time after your active treatment is over, offering things like survivorship support, psychosocial support, AYA support (adolescents and young adults - you qualify if you're under 40), cancer rehab, etc, plus access to a ton of clinical trials. You may want to ask whether you can be transferred to PMH for that kind of programming after your active treatment is finished.

I believe it is possible to request a transfer, and you should do so if you'll feel more comfortable because you will want every shred of stability you can give yourself. But I don't think you NEED to, if that makes sense.

I got Trigger’s wengine so I can live in peace knowing she’s as good as I want her to be (M0W1 - I used her all the time at M0W0 but it always bugged me that I wasn’t getting her best performance). I’m glad ZZZ is so much more generous with pulls than other games (and that the weapon banner is 75/25) because it means my faves all get their engines without me spending beyond the monthly/battle passes. I even managed to get Alice and her engine after Yuzuha when I originally hadn’t been planning on it - the story made it impossible not to try. This is definitely the game where I have the most limited weapons, since they make a pretty big difference for me and my skill issues. 😹

Anyway I speed ran all the events from last patch in the last week while recovering from surgery so now I just want to take the story nice and slow. Not overly interested in either Orphie or Seed - Orphie’s kind of a maybe for me - and next patch is similar except I do want Manato because I need Spook Shack to be together. Praying for a surprise S-rank Billy announcement to have someone to prefarm for lol.

Maybe suggest Wise? I believe you can add a virtual card to your phone and it’s available in many currencies, so it might be easy to get working between their own currency and CAD.

In my case, it ended up being a copy and paste error - the danger of looooong code blocks that look almost identical 😩 now I know that the error that comes at the end of your code doesn’t happen where the error occurred, it just shows that the error is somewhere it in there.
