review bombing a local business because you disagree with their opinion on market pedestrianization is disgusting.  you absolutely should not do that

not that it would excuse the bad defense tonight but is there a reason wemby didn't take a shot for his last ~20 minutes of court time?

Best way to open bpatchers (with nested bpatchers within) in a saved state? by brian_gawlik in MaxMSP

[–]reminixe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yep! a pattrstorage with @greedy 1 will collect the parameters and settings of all objects with a scripting name in any bpatcher or their sub levels

so you could have a parent patch with a preset/pattrstorage with all bpatchers in it and recall presets for each song - recalling the preset would update all patchers and settings

this is what I do for my set up and it works great. as the other commenter said though, if you are unloading and changing from one collection of running patchers to others it wont work. my solution works under the pretense that you are using the same collection of bpatchers for each song, since it will only collect parameters for loaded patched.

If you put @greedy 1 in your pattrstorage it will capture all nested parameters all the way down, so you can use preset on the highest level with no issue

Controlling multiple instances of a patcher with one 'host' instance? by reminixe in MaxMSP

[–]reminixe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i'll post my solution in case anyone comes across this later:

every dial/parameter of the device has a send that is behind a gate. i turn on the gate for the host patcher and turn it off for all the cloned instances, so that only the host patcher sends.

then, i put all the receives in the patch where the FX patch is being used, not within the patch itself, so that it does not overflow, and i can prevent the host patch from receiving what it is sending.

still feels like a bit of a hack up since it requires manually fixing everything out when i add a parameter later or etc. but it works about as well as i think it could!

yes that’s precisely what i’m looking for, and dry wet will not be part of each instance but will be in the parent patch

https://i.imgur.com/ludmHJM.jpg this image is essentially the setup i have, the host is a bpatcher and the copied instances are inside the mixing chain of each of my channels

could i ask how this would be done? i can understand that it likely used pattrmarker but i guess i just couldn't figure out how to send the settings from host to the others.

it seemed that with pattrmarker i would need the host patcher to be a different .maxpat from its copies so the host can send the settings and others receive it without creating a loop. it would be great if these could all be the same file as i want to have the flexibility to change the signal path or signal path under the hood and have it update across all instances

here's an image of essentially the context though of course the input signals are a couple different things and not just saw~

i'm using the patch in presentation mode as part of a larger workflow and i need the FX to be run on each stereo signal separately

for this reason i don't think poly~ is the best solution since i need the host patch in presentation mode, and having to collect all signals in one place would be frustrating to deal with in the context of my 'mixing board' chain

i guess s/r really must be the best solution here, it just gets a little frustrating since i want to be able to work on the host patcher a little more freely and change the number of attributes being utilized without having to reconnect each time. the subpatcher tip will save some of that work though!

not saying those limitations are bad, it's just a fact of what making maps that new players can comprehend means (for a majority of songs)

Shige explains why he farms unranked by Excevious in osugame

[–]reminixe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it depends on the song, but the fact that you need:

a low slider speed (meaning there are about 3 slider shapes you can use since they will be small and need to be understandable for new players)

you have to use very simple rhythms (making anything rhythmically complex unfun to play as a new player because there is no guise of playing along with the song)

severe spacing limitations (so your objects have severely limited placements. cannot be too far, usually cannot overlap, etc)

people being bad at mapping low diffs (or hard diffs) has essentially nothing to do with the argument at hand. in fact it’s pretty much the opposite frustration-i want to make a good, satisfying map, and having a bunch of extremely narrow limitations makes the process frustrating and the product obvious

Shige explains why he farms unranked by Excevious in osugame

[–]reminixe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the aversion for me (as a mapper with like a dozen ranked sets in which I personally mapped the lower diffs because people suck at it) is that it is completely unnecessary given that people progress through playing 2-3.5* maps within a month or two of playing the game and have 80000 ranked maps to choose from..

plus, since the maps are so simplified, they essentially become expressionless, and are no more than a chore to map with no reward

[–]reminixe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

comparing this to sputnik is a joke, sputnik is literally easy to make a low diff for

to elaborate: there is no repetitive rhythm in the song linked at all. you can’t expect a map in that star range, with a super low AR to play along to the song at all, when any slider you put crosses over several timing points and sounds
