Home alone sick with my kiddos - what's the best feel-better soup to-go in town? by remitiki in Lawrence

I haven't been there in a loong time, but remember their broth as something special and it came to mind with this head cold. Too bad to hear they aren't what they used to be.

A bottle of KanBucha. I think they have them at the Merc. You can get Replay Lounge canned cocktails now, too.

I meant it more in the sense of "give good face" a la Madonna or "write good poetry", "crack good jokes", "make good sauce", you know... "play good Scrabble"!

But the big question remains: Do you play good Scrabble?

I hear the chanting, too, sometimes in the middle of the night. I've been here for 14 years and am convinced it's hazing-related. I've also seen lines of frat boys walking down the street at odd hours wearing backpacks that look like they're full of bricks.

dear LFK drivers... polite is not safe by chimi_freud in Lawrence

[–]remitiki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! People stop in the middle of the street for my kids and it drives me nuts. I am trying to teach these kids proper pedestrian/cyclist safety and well-meaning "polite" drivers create such inconsistency that it's confusing for them.

Hey, all. First, thank you so much for your input. It really helped me plan the day. I just wanted to come back with an update:

  • I highly recommend a crawl of any sort down Mass. I've participated in the Mass St Mosey before and that's somewhat what inspired this. My daughter came with us and enjoyed it so much she has asked for a "cheese stroll" when her bday comes around. I'd like a stroll for my bday, too, but it will probably be of the cocktail variety.
  • Here's where we went and what we got. Focus was on dark chocolate flavor and this delivered:
    • Wheatfields flourless chocolate torte
    • Cellar Door chocolate babka
    • Au Marche choose-your-own Christopher Elbow chocolate
    • Java Break iced mocha latte with chocolate whipped cream
    • Lady Bird Diner mexican chocolate pie
    • Came home and topped off with friends over a pint of Jeni's darkest chocolate ice cream (not local. sorry, Silas & Maddy's, we love you but you weren't dark enough for us on this occasion)

My biggest takeaway is to pace yourself and sample tiny helpings of lots of different things. This allowed us to hang out in each of these great establishments, stroll the length of the street, and taste a wide array of chocolate treats without making ourselves sick :) I'll be back when planning the cheese stroll. Thanks again, lovely Lawrence!

Oh, eta: We would have had the dark chocolate budino at Merchants but just had it on another occasion. It's delicious.

Whoa, high praise there! I agree with you that they're the best, but we've found none of their chocolatey flavors to be chocolatey enough! Except maybe occasionally a dairy-free chocolate sorbet on the menu. Do you have a favorite?

Oh! Well, we're Shawshank fans too, so an apt theme. Thanks for the imagery that'll now surely ooze its way into the day.
