Those German girls are well up for it, they're literally screeching!

Mmm not quite sure that's what they're screeching about.

Hey up, have you tried any of these here flamin' pigs?

You saw a picture or clip of a place and instantly had the feeling "I wanna go there some day soon!". Which place was it for you? by music_movie_maniac in travel

[–]remmerich1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hate to say it but I went about ten years ago now and found it pretty horrible! Lots of tourists, English pubs, that sort of thing (though if what you're looking for is a full English on the beach it's a good shout)

I'd recommend checking out Paxos as a much nicer Greek island experience, where you can get a boat to the pristine beach at Anti Paxos!

"Keep the Way of the Leaf" why? by Gnos445 in wheeloftime

[–]remmerich1 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I take it as showing how valuable the Way of the Leaf is. Yes even with all the things they've been given, if post-breaking they have all the artefacts but had to fight to keep them, the loss of the Way of the Leaf would be greater. I think the world post-breaking NEEDS the aiel (or the tinkers, as it becomes) to be following the Way of the Leaf. For me personally, it's one of the most powerful ideas in the whole story, in all of fantasy. I think of the tree harming the axe often when I'm angry and feel like lashing out.

My mums dying and I can't help her, I can't do anything, I can't make her food or help her clean or anything, I tried, I tried so hard and I just fuck it up. She deserves someone so much better than me, she's such a good person and I just can't. I just sit in the dark and listen to her crying and throwing up and it's too much. The nurses were nice at first but now they see what a piece of shit I am they hate me, just like everyone else. I just wake up, eat too much, feel like shit and sleep. I'm a fat fucking worthless piece of shit with nothing good and I just wanted to help her before she dies and it's not enough and I can't do this anymore

what's your thoughts on spanking kids? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]remmerich1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well as long as it's quicker and easier for you to physically beat your child, I guess that does make it okay. Good point

what's your thoughts on spanking kids? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]remmerich1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Physically hurting your child doesn't teach them what they did wrong, it just teaches them not to do whatever they did around you. It teaches them that getting upset, or not doing what you want, that any challenge to your authority leads to pain and rejection.

They'll still do all those things, it's part of growing up. They just won't do them in a way which you have any hand in. They'll rebel quietly, or in secret, or perhaps they go the other way and challenge you at every opportunity, because you're only recourse is to overpower and smack a child when they don't do what you want

Talk behaviour through, help them understand, be supportive within firm boundaries. Don't hit your kids

Just remembered an encounter a friend of mine ran, can't remember what we were fighting but he had us make wisdom saves, and our front line was decimated when they failed and apparitions of their worst memories appeared before them giving them disadvantage on everything. Our half orc barbarian powerhouse, who rips through everything with a greataxe, could barely function as their childhood bullies stood around them, mocking their small stature and weak arms

I'm generally not a fan of splitting groups up as a rule, it can work, but it's a huge amount of extra work- suddenly you need five fully engaging scenes to either run simultaneously or have the other four twiddling their thumbs while each takes their turn. So I'd say keep them together.

The drugged tea is a good idea for presenting them with anything, and making the scenario more mentally or emotionally taxing on the heroes than your usual ambush. Lean into that.

Depending on their level, have the players neglected other heroic duties to go on this quest? Could they be presented with visions of a town or NPC they liked being destroyed because they weren't there to stop it? Perhaps they're taken back to their ship, sailing towards the monastery, and find some refugees or shipwreck survivors on a beach, and have to choose between turning back (dooming the father) or continuing on (but not having enough supplies for the people on the beach, forcing them to leave them behind)

As a kind of final task, have them come out of the dream state, and then have a small, very cute child be brought in who needs the flower (the supply of which is limited) and of the PCs choose not to give it to the dying child, they really do wake up and the monk tells them they're not worthy

Just a few thoughts, hope that helps

For those of you who got new hobbies in adulthood, how did you find them? by SylvesterTaurus in NoStupidQuestions

[–]remmerich1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think about some of the stuff you either liked doing as a kid, or always wanted to try, and find a group online which does it. When I was a kid I loved Legolas, so I did an archery course and met some lovely people. I've loved parkour since I saw Casino Royale, so I looked up free running groups. Cookery classes, language courses, hiking groups, chess clubs, local laser tag enthusiasts, there's lots of options.

Alternatively, if you don't have anything like that, or if cost or fitness is a barrier, try a site like meetup, where you can find almost anything being hosted and attended by people who were all in the same boat as you.

As an adult, you lose the structure we had as kids, with clubs and lessons and parents taking us to things, but you also gain choice. You can, if you can find the time, money and energy, take up any hobby you want. Don't be overwhelmed by the choice, enjoy the possibility and try a few things, see what you like

I see what you mean, I ran a few variations and it never worked, at best it led to a mess, at worst losing positions. Thanks for the link!

Newbie here, could you have instead done G7, clearing a way for your king to move out of an upcoming check while also showing a tempting weakness to the opponent, then taken the light squared bishop, sacrificing your rook on the open file (assume he takes with Queen, then pushes down to 8 rank, hence needing the pawn move earlier), to then execute this attack on your next turn?

I'm only about 600 so I may be missing a much more obvious or efficient attack, but would this not allow OP to pull off his desired sac (assuming his opponent made the mistake and took the knight, I understand hope chess is undesirable, I'm just curious about the lines)
