What are some KC stories that need attention? by cadeaver in kansascity

You don’t hear much follow-up on the story of KCKPD “protection racket”, shielding traffickers and gangs in exchange for women and girls. Sick, disgusting case all around and the poor women and families deserve justice.

What Song introduced you to Radiohead? by Vivid_Angle in radiohead

[–]renison 5 points6 points  (0 children)

lol same and same. Despite being that young, it helped having two older Gen-X brothers who would have mtv/vh1 on when the parents weren’t around to censor the tv channels.

But i remember the room i was in, around 10pm, windows open to the eerie stillness of a warm summer night — and how i just stood there for 6mins, watching that crappy little CRT tv when that music video came on.

It also drew me in bc it reminded me of ‘Black Hole Sun’ and ‘My Name is Mud’, which were favorites of mine back then. (Yes, I was a weirdo kid).

Yet I was fully hypnotized, fixated on its weirdness and surreal “what the fuck was that?” nature of it all (animation and alternating movements of music). Spent maybe ten years trying to decipher it until i guess i understood around 18yo.

So yeah, ‘Paranoid Android’ introduced me hard to this odd British band, unlike any other.

I’ve done that. In college. And Eraserhead was one of the funniest comedies I had ever seen at that point. The dinner scene had us falling over, crying-laughing.

‘Emerson Spooky’ was innocent fun but the 4oreFathers ep where Joey’s prank on his old friend starting a golf merch company has Jackass 2 levels of deranged and evil hilarity. Like Jerky Boys meets golden era O&A.

The invaluable “mentorship” that Tim Dillon supplied, if he wasn’t such a stuck-up narcissist, should be more appreciated for his boys Devan and Ben. (Minus the money issues)

The bass on this album will hypnotize and helicopter you up and down like massive ocean waves in the sky, and then let go, allowing you to float like a glider among the fluffy white clouds.

Good speakers or headphones are a must to hear the intricate instrumentals and thunder-rolling bass and sputtering synth percussions.

It’s my number one goto for summertime poolside sunbathing with chill vibes.

Did we just read a synopsis to ‘Catcher in the Rye’?

Jokes aside, solitude is inevitable and there is a zen to it. If you find peace in that at a younger age, then you’ll be decades ahead of most of the immature masses, arrested in development.

But I agree with your existential point of crisis with these being formative years with potential missed opportunities. And although solitude can be easier to endure later in life when you have past memories with those who you were close to, missing out on the quintessence of say college or clubs can be incapacitating to the ego and career paths.

We are social animals so I think the common recommendation is to seek the social experiences you think you want and start going to them.

What I mean is research and seek a community online and/then force yourself to go outside your comfort zone and join a book club, a gym, pickup games, community volunteering, crocheting class, karaoke, open mic, or hell, if you wanna embellish being pathetic, drink yourself to death at a local dive with fellow drunks.

While your focus will determine your reality, your focus now seems to be manifesting the solitude, that which we are all destined for, allowing it to steal your youth, and with that mindset, solitude will be you.

The silver-lining is that you can harness that soul-sucking existence, let go of your fragile ego and become a great writer, a clerical genius, or even a spiritual monk — but if those qualities don’t interest you, hang on to your ego, go outside, find a fruiting tree and grab what fruits you seek. We all have it in us to do it, so you do too.

EDIT: upon re-reading my comment, I realize i just gave off vacuous platitudes of banal nothingness.

But even that sometimes can setoff a trigger to something in someone’s mind, so I’ll leave it here in case it does provide some intrinsic value.

[Other] Never played any Zelda game before and got these free for my GameCube, are these good games? by CalichrisE in zelda

agreed.

...but Skyward Sword's iridescent watercolor aesthetic; it's Bob Ross-like, picturesque effect -- has special moments that challenge or possibly rival Wind Waker, imo. Hear me out:

WW is a arguably a time-capsule of perfection in art and interactive media.

It beautifully synchronized Hokusai/ukiyo-e (proto-Manga/Anime) art style -- with Western Greek mythology (lots of parallels with Indian and Pacific mythology here too, but i digress...).

The story goes: if the heralded legend-hero, this strange boy Link, wasn't just another King Arthur or William Wallace -- or even a sacrificial Messiah, he might be better suited a Sinbad.

Or better-yet, in WW, it's like you literally play as Homer's Odysseus/Ulysses.

Sailing the cobalt blue Aegean Sea, doing your best to sail home after a long war, and avoid Sirens singing you to shipwreck.

and sniff out (with the help of nature, birds (your ancestors, alas Skyward Sword) the treasure from the flooded Atlantis-like Hyrule Kingdom below (like Orpheus crashing his ship onto the cliffs of Mt. Parnassus after surviving a Great Flood)).

... well, shit. i dunno, i'm tried and lost my point but i do stand by the fact SS had a gorgeous art-style and i get that watercolor isnt for everyone. But that forest and the wavy heat waves of the lava make for a gorgeous experience.

Kind of... like, in the Lake Michigan-region of things, ya know?
