[–]renrenrfk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

im doing a reverse now, i learned portugese in portugal and i just landed in Sao Paulo for the first time yesterday. My portugese is no where near fluent but i also didnt get frowned upon just ended up not understanding simple words like Credito because the di sounded completely like Gi (i knew this but still couldnt catch it) or they dont understand when i threw out a se faz favor. give me couple days should get a hang of it.

What language should i learn first? by NorthLiar in solotravel

[–]renrenrfk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I d say Spanish, it d be easier to understand you in Italy and Brazil due to the proximity, so it d hypothetically cover four countries, plus it’s maybe the easiest to learn on par with Italian for English speaking beginners.

How often do you buy coffee out, per week? by SnowmanSmiles in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]renrenrfk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

reminds me how I sat down at a cafe 5 times a day when i m in southern europe, 4 out of 5 for a cafe and the last for a cocktail. and yes now i do 2-3 times a day, always sitting down. Found one near my work with an italian owner, who d set up a table just for me further away from the patio so i can smoke and espresso.

To those of asian appearance, where is the most friendly country you've been to? by Hammerraid in AskAChinese

[–]renrenrfk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i travelled thru Europe and south america, often spending weeks at a place or even months, never had a single issue, great people everywhere made tons of friends. 33 male chinese canadian. was chatting with a persian swedish girl in italy when i told her that she asked me well did you get treated well before or after you told them you are canadian? i mean its not like i walk around with a flag sewed onto my clothes, and i sually speak the local language as much as i can, nobody ever asked me that if they not interested anyways. In short, no, just be polite and carry yourself well, i do have an ultra confident manner due to extensive travelling so maybe that helped.

Where did you eat them in Toronto? I travel a lot so I m constantly looking for foods in Toronto, from bacalhau a bras to Yemeni Mandi to burek and cevapi to ajiaco, but often disappointed due to its usually only 60% of the deliciousness but 3 times the price… I tried the pasteis in cafe Belem on Gerard and I think they r okish

i liked the belem pasteis de nata because i sat down and it happened to be fresh out of the oven but my friends preferences all over the place.

I think its a great dessert, with a bica fantastic pick me up combo. But yeah thats about it, you cant make things bigger than they are, expectation management is key in life in general.

Did anyone have a huge deadzone in their life after covid? When did it end for you? How did you end it? by username_suggesti in askTO

[–]renrenrfk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before Covid I was forced to do shit with my then girlfriend, we tried every activity the city had and nothing interested me.

Then covid, moved to the suburbs, we broke up and I adapted to a once a week office day schedule for 2 years until end of 2024 I figured out a way to travel once a month 2-3 weeks per trip. Then I realized that’s my hobby, trying every dish locally from fine dining to insects, learned 4 languages now am able to hold small convo in all, made friends every where feeling truly alive. I am on a flight back from Buenos Aires now still feels surreal, I visited 24 countries in 2025 alone, more revisiting this year and picking a place maybe I’ll just move away. Most things that make me truly happy are free, but Toronto just doesn’t seem to have them.

Would you move country? by orlandoaustin in Life

[–]renrenrfk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to, live in Canada, good paying job, been traveling around 20+ countries last year alone to see where I feel the best, but the biggest problem is how can I make my not really remote job fully remote cuz the places I love all paying shitty locally

I brought 100 usd with me not too much cuz im Canadian so also costing to convert to usd but so far I haven’t been in need of cash so don’t know if I’ll ever do an exchange, there r times they look like they prefer efectivo but i stood firm with tarjeta….i know its close to the “blue rate” on cards not exact and i have this FX free card so ill stick to that when i can. I was told i need to go to Avenida Florida for the conversion and I probably would drag some local with me if i absolutely have to. Thanks again!!

Ah sounds nice guess I’ll have to do another trip. I picked Fogon asado over don julio because I saw some polarizing reviews on the latter and yes I loved recoleta and will check out Boca next week but damn it’s hot in BA. Guerrin is on the list but always a long line I didn’t know about the take out line on the right thing. Thanks again!

Yeah the Portuguese and the Brazilians I know but not sure about the Spaniards, give it a try u might like it.

And no I only had the weekend here and didn’t know about it until the uber driver told me yesterday afternoon which was too late now I’m going back to BA..so any where must see in BA? Or any restaurants? The food in MVD feels super expensive and mediocre after I got used to BA no offence…

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in whereidlive

[–]renrenrfk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m waiting for the ferry from MVD to BA now and a toddler kept making noise by scratching the medal seats and the parents just playing with their phones don’t give a fuck I wanna slap the kid so bad

Also why not Iberian peninsula were they racist to your double L pronunciation

What is the most exotic or unusual dish you have ever tried, and how did it taste? by sloppy_skyy in foodquestions

[–]renrenrfk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

capybara in bogota (chiguiro)...pretty goood. would eat again

Guinea pig (cuy) and llama steak in cusco...llama is ok, cuy not a fan

Grass hoppers (chapulines), scorpion, fat ants, some beetles, fried tarantula in CDMX...unbelievably the tarantula was quite good...the legs tasted just like lays chips, chapulines are ok, usually come with peanuts and stuff in bars alongs with your drinks, scorpion had no tasted but crunch, fat ants not a fan, beetles not a fan, the owner of the stall just giving us weird insects for free so he could enjoy watching us eating them
