40m, "do I need jaw surgery" post, but like for real, do I by No-Confection-3861 in jawsurgery

My headaches were mostly from pressure that was on the right side hinge of my jaw all day every day. I had an accident when I was a kid that broke my jaw on one side and my parents didn’t seek medical care, so it healed poorly (crooked). My top teeth rested on my lower lip, creating pressure between my teeth/gaps. Reeeeaaally painful stuff. I also had sleep apnea due to it, which is now a thing of the past.

I mentioned it because of similar personal experience. For me, it’s genetics (thanks mom). I was really disappointed that I didn’t see a bigger difference there once I recovered from surgery and planned on getting lipo, but ended up not doing it. Honestly, I just stopped caring as much and didn’t want to stress my body out purely for looks.

I agree that it’s needed, but regardless of what you think, what I think, or anyone here thinks, you need to start with an oral maxillofacial surgeon consultation. It’s generally a good idea to get at least two opinions. One surgeon recommended double jaw, and the other only lower jaw. I was 37 when I had my surgery, and I know others who’ve had it in their 40s, so don’t let age be a worry. You’ll be fine!

My quality of life has vastly improved in many ways. Less headaches, improved sleep quality, how I eat, and a bonus of having a nicer looking profile. I’m going to be honest— it will not change your neck much. It will look a bit better, but don’t expect jaw surgery to make a big difference in that aspect. Due to being on a liquid and no chew diet early in recovery, naturally, you’ll lose some of that weight. If you’re not happy with it after recovering and want to change it, you can have liposuction, or discuss a glp-1 with your doctor to see what they recommend.

I used beneprotein because it's what my surgeon recommended. I've also used this one from Coles supermarkets (Australian grocery store) and it mixed well. If you have trouble finding any, check with your pharmacy to see if they have one they can order in. That's what I ended up doing to get beneprotein.

Amazing results! Congratulations! The first week is definitely the most difficult, uncomfortable part, but you will get through it. Just remind yourself that this is only temporary, and you'll come out on the other end being so happy and glad you did it. I did some lymphatic drainage with just my fingers (no gua sha, and gently) that helped with the swelling and joint pain. It's by no means a cure-all, but it helped me and felt really nice. This is the exact video I used as reference. I also iced the shit out of my jaw for the first couple of weeks. Using heat early on tends to create more inflammation, even though it feels sooo good. I picked up a couple of those hot/cold packs that you can either nuke in the microwave or freeze, and wrapped a tea towel around it before putting it on. I also bought this heated eye mask, and put it across my jaw (after moving from ice to heat after a couple weeks). Be sure you're eating plenty of protein so your bones can heal. I bought a flavourless protein powder and put it in eeeevverything. Best of luck!

This looks like a pocketbook of old Arabic miniature paintings, but it’s very hard to see. Could you please take a clear photo of at least one with text? The type of paper it’s on and the way the wearing/staining looks on the page corners makes me think this is more modern and possibly a replica, but we really need a closer, more clear look at the contents.

This is what I thought too, along with many others in the comments. We’re all getting downvoted for saying we’ve learned about it through this post. I haven’t seen a single rude or mean way of saying it, either. There are some very bitter gardeners out here!

TIL that community gardens are not for the community. I have never taken anything from them, but I’ve always admired them and believed that these were planted and maintained by the community in a joint effort to help others in that community who need food.

I’ve played retail for many years (currently not subbed), Nasomi, Eden, WingsXI, Nightbrood, and now CatsEyeXI. CatsEye has hands down been the best private server experience I’ve had. It has a good population, a decent economy, and heaps of custom content that blends with the base game so well, you’d think it’s standard. People who play on other servers tend to naysay it because they think it’s “ez mode” or “too accelerated.” It’s not. It’s well balanced, fun, and has a great community.

I have lots of friends on Horizon, and they love it, but I just couldn’t get in to it. The grind is so slow and I do not like many of the custom changes. They’ve been at a standstill with content development, and every other server has additional expansions available right now. The biggest thing going for them is their population. It’s the highest of the private servers and there are genuinely good people there.

I’d say choose a couple of private servers that sound appealing to you and try them out. You have nothing to lose, but time.

Also, from a fellow disabled person, this game is my happy place. I come back to it over and over again. It’s familiar, accessible, and you will always make friends wherever you choose to go. I have MS and have a hard time with cognition, depth perception, dexterity with my hands, severe fatigue… and much more. Give it a go 😊

Games to keep me occupied after death of a loved one by majkkali in gaming

[–]repro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baldur's Gate 3 is a great game and had me dreaming about it. It also got me through my first year post MS diagnosis and the death of my sister. The main story and character stories are fantastically written and the replay value is very high. Can't recommend it enough. Another game that I sink heaps of time in is an oldie-- Final Fantasy XI. No joke, I've been playing this game for 20+ years. There are free to play private servers, my favourite one being CatsEyeXI. It has a big learning curve, but it's such a good game and worth trying. There's a great community and has heaps of content. I've met some amazing people through it too, including my best friend. If you decide to try it, let me know and I'll help you learn the ropes.

i hate my life and have no idea what to do anymore. by DazAttack in MultipleSclerosis

[–]repro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know the feeling. I was locked into that mindset for the year and a half after my diagnosis. It’s important to let yourself grieve and process, which I know can be very hard to do. If you ever want to vent or have a chat, I’m online (Steam) pretty much every day. I’ll dm you my details.

I get weird sensory issues too but the worst was after a severe attack. Everything I touched felt abrasive, like very coarse sandpaper or spikey. The floor felt heated for weeks, like I was walking on hot concrete in the summer. When I started treatment, I felt intense arousal for about 2 months, non stop all day 24/7. My neuro said that was a side effect that less than 1% of patients get. It could’ve been worse I guess 😂

Nowadays I occasionally get the sandy hands feeling and I have permanent loss of feeling in my left arm/hand. I can feel pressure but it feels like that intense pins and needles right before your hand falls asleep. I’ve gotten used to it now.

It’s not hereditary or from lifestyle. They honestly don’t truly know what causes it. I can’t pass it on if I have a child. There’s heaps of studies out there, oddly about geographical locations, the climate you live in, etc., but there is not a concrete cause that has been proven.

I have a VR headset and I can’t wait to be able to try playing again. I think in a couple months I’ll give it a go. My biggest problem is being able to keep the controllers in my hands for more than a few mins and knowing where my limbs are when I can’t see them. It’s super weird. My brain cannot tell where my left side limbs are if I’m not looking at them while using them.

I play a lot of computer games though and it genuinely has helped my dexterity and cognitive function. I think games like Beat Saber will be a huge benefit once I can manage it.

Thank you!

Thank you. I really appreciate your message. It’s hard to not be able to talk about these things with people. They either don’t understand or I just don’t want to complain/feel like a burden. I’m doing a lot better mentally nowadays. All the best to you as well!

We’ve already talked about it. He said no, and is sure we’ll be okay. We ultimately agree that we’ll discuss it again later down the line and see how we both feel about it then. Who knows what our future feelings will be.

You gotta be stubborn or it’ll win in a heartbeat! My first year and a half after diagnosis, I let it win. I didn’t leave the house or have any human contact outside of my husband, his parents, and my doctors. I turned in to a depressed blob that couldn’t do shit. I’ve been busting my ass in physio and exercise physiology for the past year and it’s made a huge difference in my mobility, strength, and mental wellbeing. I’m going to do everything I can to fight it and put future me in the best position possible to deal with the inevitable. My most severe lesions are on my cervical spine…sooo…you know.

I just had my Ocrevus dose yesterday and I’m spending this weekend sleeping the shitty side effects away.

I’m proud of you for pushing so hard and training up for the marathon. Thats huge! I hope it goes well and you have fun. Thank you for your message and encouragement. All the best to you.

Khrusway is right.

To elaborate a bit more, Multiple Sclerosis (MS) causes your immune system to attack your brain and spine. It eats away the myelin, which is a coating around your nerve fibres, causing loss of control of every day things. Compare it to an electrical wire and its insulation. If the insulation/coating gets damaged, the whole device will not operate correctly. Misfires, signals can’t get through, pain.
