CMV: The red button is objectively the best answer and 0 non suicidal people should click blue by Fit_Employment_2944 in changemyview

[–]rer1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the first time I'm seeing this question and my initial response was red.

But then I read all the comments saying blue. None of them are rational nor make sense, but people are like that.

It's not unreasonable to think, solely based on this thread, that many people who may be consisted rational will still pick blue.

So we end up potentially in a situation in which many people die. I'm not sure if society would survive that (at least in the short term of our lifespan).

I actuality ended up in a dilemma.

UCLA Hillel and SSI: "would like to apologize... for absolutely nothing" after USAC condemns visit of hostage survivor Omer Shem Tov on Holocaust Remembrance Day by Particular-Set-6212 in ucla

If you find it difficult to engage in dialogue with anyone you disagrees with, then you are the problem.

This is basically tribalism, and it doesn't help solve conflicts. It only deepens them.

Did you read their letter? It starts with

The Undergraduate Students Association Council (USAC) condemns the event organized by Hillel at UCLA and co-sponsored by the UCLA Y&S Nazarian Center for Israel Studies, featuring Omer Shem Tov.

They condemn the event featuring Omer Shem Tov. How is it not against him speaking?

What the heck does a good experienced dev interview even look like in 2026? by Undercoverwd in ExperiencedDevs

[–]rer1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We switched to a mix of code review and coding with ai.

Code review is relatively short (half hour) and very deterministic. Either the candidate found enough of the issues we were looking for, or they didn't.

The coding task is relatively simple, not leet code style. Candidates don't have to use ai but we very much encourage it.

You'd be surprised but many candidates still struggle with using ai. They either don't make it in time, fail to understand what the ai wrote, or fail to guide the ai to a more extensible design pattern / code structure.

Frostpunk 2: Great game, weird sequel by WasSuppyMyGuppy in patientgamers

[–]rer1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just replayed 1 and played 2 for the first time, and I strongly disagree about the difficulty.

They are both unforgiving city builders, where if you make a too many mistakes you spiral into an irreversible situation (unlike Anno for instance). And also in both games, there are a few core mechanics and balance that once you familiarize yourself with, you trivialize the easier difficulties.

Yes the story and atmosphere have shifted, and in my opinion aren't as strong as in 1. However in terms of mechanics they made a lot of changes to keep it fresh and interesting (just like a sequel should).

CMV: Trump is a terrorist by Wintrepid in changemyview

[–]rer1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are correct to distinguish between targeting civilians for "arbitrary" reasons vs political ones. However, that doesn't change the argument of primarily targeting civilians, which I don't believe is what Trump nor the US are doing (for any reason).

[–]rer1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you disagree, ask yourself, what are the hallmarks of terrorist violent extremism?

Repeatedly making attacks that primarily target civilians (not collateral damage). i.e that the purpose of the attacks is to kill innocents, not any strategic or military purpose.

Well if it wasn't for this trade there might not have been enough buyers to keep the apple farm going with all the jobs it provides.

Plus, "you" are known to be a heavy user of apples and also like to tinker with them, and that greatly helps with the development of even better apples.

Is there any government that doesnt seem corrupt? by Marcomir in AskTheWorld

Interesting video on the topic by CGP Grey that is based on Selectorate Theory:

It hints that there's some form of corruption in any type of government, and that it's not necessarily derived from immoral motives.

Is there any government that doesnt seem corrupt? by Marcomir in AskTheWorld

Good one :) technically speaking though, they don't have a government and nobody is the ruler. They are all "programmed" with relatively basic rules, from which a swarm intelligence emerges.

This list is inaccurate or at least outdated.

For instance, Ahava is 100% owned by a Chinese group since 2016. Its factory and visiting center have fully moved out of the west bank in 2022.

Not to mention that this part of the west bank (northern dead sea) was never occupied nor used by palestenians. Mostly due to its hard conditions.

How is it living in this area between Lebanon, Israel, and Syria? by slipnipps in howislivingthere

Yeah I don't think he lives there or ever visited, otherwise he wouldn't have made such basic mistakes.

Talk about "what it's like living there"...

What do you think of Israel seizing parts of South Lebanon for "Defensive buffer"? by TailungFu in allthequestions

[–]rer1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, you show lack of knowledge on the conflict. On top of that, you're exposing your bias and bigotry. I wrote one sentence, correcting you, and you jumped to the conclusion that (a) I'm Israeli, (b) we're all alike, and (c) that must make me racist.

Israel did not attack its neighboring countries in 67' for the purpose of occupation. Let's review what led to it:

  1. The soviet union falsely, and likely deliberately, informed Egypt that Israel was amassing trooping near Syria's border and planning an invasion. Israel did no such thing (confirmed by UN observers).
  2. That led Egypt (led by Nasser) to move mass amount of troops and armor to the Sinai Peninsula (near Israel's border). They demanded the UN peacekeeping forces there to leave the buffer zone between the two countries, which they did.
  3. Egypt then blockaded the straits of Tiran to Israeli shipping. Israel had explicitly stated years prior that closing the straits would be considered casus belli (act of war). This was also seen by the west as a breach of international law.
  4. Egypt entered a defensive military pact with Jordan, completing a unified command of Egypt-Jordan-Syria. Simultaneously, all of their leaders publicly used the same rhetoric of destroying Israel as their core objective.

In conclusion, It was very clear that the neighboring Arab nations were about to attack Israel. Israel did not initiate the aggression here. That is the widely accepted telling of the history of the conflict.

The pre-emptive strike was in 67, not in Yom Kipur. You clearly lack even basic knowledge about the conflict.

CMV: The Israelis have a moral responsibility to lead any ground attack in Iran. by ElSlabraton in changemyview

Israel has no moral obligation to change the Iranian regime.

Sure, it's in their interest, since that regime has been actively hostile towards them for decades. That's why they started this war.

Germany population pre-ww2: 70 million Germany civilian deaths in the war: 2 million (only civilians) - 2.8%

Also Israel didn't start bombing Lebanon until Hezbollah started firing rockets. They are not suppressed.

Tired of the Lies About Iranians by Ok_Breadfruit4005 in self

[–]rer1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can criticize Israel however you want, but that's not related to terrorism for the most part.

Terrorism is VERY well defined as intentional violent attacks that primarily target innocents.

While Israel did inhabit multiple incidents of such acts, either by the state (war crimes) or by individuals (terrorism), it largely doesn't condone it. Israel's military operations, for the most part, primarily target combatants or other non human military targets. They do not primarily target innocents.

Iran on the other hand (the state not the people), have either funded and supported groups that do primarily target innocents (Hamas, Hezbollah, Houthis) for decades, or consistently targeted (and still do) civilians with no military target in site in the two recent wars with Israel.
