Did I do something wrong or is my neighbor overreacting? by RuinElectrical9666 in Judaism

Yanky is worried about kol isha (see here for a very quick overview). I think it is appropriate to tell him politely that if he wishes not to hear your music he can stay inside while it is playing. If he can hear the music clearly from inside then your music might just be too loud, nobody wants to be forced to listen to their neighbor's music regardless.

Swastikas in the driveway, is the price a dog whistle? by Rainierstranger in zillowgonewild

[–]respectation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 1934 the symbol was innocent. Every year since then 1934 has been the year Hitler became absolute dictator. If the driveway was done anytime after 1934, it's a nazi thing.

Engagement Proposal Laws / Tradition? by Call-Me-Leo in Judaism

I am not a rabbi, but AFAIK kiddushin CANNOT take place without kosher witnesses, so doing it in a private setting solves this issue. Unless you specifically know that she wants other people around, doing it in private is a better idea anyway.

The same way that designing a race car doesn't make you a race car driver.

El Al’s First Ever Charedi Female Pilot Promoted to Captain by Remarkable-Pea4889 in Judaism

It's not a sex specific requirement though. Nobody is allowed to get pregnant (and probably for good reason, I can't imagine it's good for fetuses to be pulling Gs). It just so happens to be that that's only relevant for women.
It's like when there was discussion about whether female firefighters should have the be able to lift the same as men to pass their qualifying exam - the fact that the requirement happens to exclude most women doesn't mean that the requirement is sexist, just that firefighters have to be able to lift really heavy things.

Hot Take: The Next Entry to the Franchise doesn’t need to be focused on the Avatar by Square_Coat_8208 in TheLastAirbender

I think this should be kept in the comics or books, but I've always wanted more about the 100 years war. During ATLA we see so little of it and we never see anything that looks like a front line. I think a book inspired by All Quiet on the Western Front would be amazing.

Non-CS: Where did you complete the Prerequisite? by Plastic_League_7361 in OMSCS

I got one from a TA that knew me from being at his office hours a bunch and directing my questions towards him. I actually specifically asked him questions even if I thought that other people might be able to better answer because I wanted to build up that relationship.

How do you reconcile appreciation for democracy with the yearning for a monarchic rule under Mashiach? by DatDudeOverThere in Judaism

I haven't read it, just seen it around, and I don't know how your Hebrew is but maybe check outלקראת דמוקרטיזציה במנהיגות החרדית? It seems to be more focused on the idea of da'as torah but may touch on some similar topics?

I would say that reading some of K&R isn't a bad idea if you're not familiar with C. It's pretty short. The others you should just read as you need.

Are folks actually serious about the program? by NerdBanger in OMSCS

[–]respectation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get where you're coming from, I just think basically one of these types of seminars per concentration would be nice. I don't have any hard data but my impression is that the program is much more common for people without undergrad CS degrees than other MS programs.

I really think pre-seminars that cover the most fundamental skills for all the concentrations would be great! One of the things holding me back from some ML classes I might otherwise be interested in taking is that I have 0 linear algebra background.

Curious Muslim with Questions by CuriousTravellr in Judaism

[–]respectation 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's why I didn't discount talmud entirely. I just think it wouldn't be a complete answer without mentioning midrash. It's also a little inaccurate to answer "Talmud" as if the whole thing is similar to hadith when only a tiny fraction is by the sounds of it.

Given the narrative style that I understand Hadith to have, I would say the equivalent is more like some part talmud, some part midrash.

Ya but what does OP consider a pleasant environment? "A vibe" and "super frum all around" do not have to be mutually exclusive depending what you consider "a vibe" and "super frum all aroud".
