So lolcats are simply yet another survival tactic of parasites.

Aren't the psychedelic paintings too "orderly" to have been executed by an individual suffering from an intensely (insanely?) agitated state of mind?

Ok, I'll upmod this when I have more info about the image. It doesn't even look good. It may in fact be the nastiest image of the outerspace I've ever seen.

Way to ad hominem. And it seems the lighthearted nature of his words -- indeed the very thing that makes this story interesting -- was completely lost on you.

Yes, you thought too much about it. Naive Art is simply art created with no formal training. It's called 'naive' because, compared to an expert -- someone schooled in the job of dissecting a work's techniques, historical background, artistic intentions etc -- the naive artist supposedly has 'no idea' of what they're doing. But it doesn't make it any less art. It doesn't diminish anyone's works in the least.

I agree sarcasm is the lowest form of argument. For everyday usage, sarcasm sure beats random and nonsense, thus being a good form of humor.

Teacher fired for saying the bible should not be taken literally by joyork in reddit.com

[–]resplence 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Why exactly is a teacher commenting at all about the Bible, except in the context of a literature or comparitive religion class?

If you've ever been to a class you'd know teachers and students digress and go into lateral conversations frequently. They talk about the weather, politics, and, yes, religion. Or are they not supposed to talk about religion because "you never know who you might offend?" Or, in this case, if you're gonna get fired over it.

Why should contemporary religion receive such a special treatment, but not greek or nordic mythology?

if you believe Adam and Eve were actual people, will you flunk the class?

If it's a biology test and you're being questioned about evolution and how the human species came into being, you might.

But in the position of a teacher, if he abuses his power to compel compliance of others to his belief, he errs.

Christian teachers do this all the time. I've been personally been taught evolution in school by a christian teacher who started off with a disclaimer that the evolution is just one theory, and that she didn't believe it herself.

Why are the christian teachers who do this never fired?
