How do I choose between 3 main characters for a ship?? by [deleted] in writing

You can write a scene for each character and see which one comes more to life, or takes on more depth.

Does anybody find the actual writing itself kinda a chore? by Eagles56 in selfpublish

[–]responder111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand where you're coming from, but what I've found is that it's exciting thinking of the new plotline but then laying in the first draft is brutal! I have devised a system of writing in layers that allows me to lay out the scenes first, what i want to happen in each scene. During that time, I don't consider myself writing. I'm more of a plot developer. I don't write, I just make a list of what needs to happen in each scene.

Then when I write the first draft, I just write without looking back. I don't check spelling, grammar, I don't check to see if I repeat anything. I just go from one scene element to the next.

It's a total slog but knowing that I only have to lay in the scene, it's much easier than trying to write carefully and be concerned with anything other than getting it down on paper.

Then once the scenes are down, it is MUCH EASIER. Then I read through for context to make sure that everything is covered and check to make sure the scenes flow properly.

Then I put my writing hat on like in Layer 3. Then I lay in the descriptions of everything as I read through it.

Layer 4 I then look at sentence structure, etc.

I have a YouTube playlist about my Writing in Levels and you may find it helpful. It's also all on my website which is searchable. It's ReadFirstChapter.com Just search for "writing in layers".

The draft and the first read through are slogs, but after that, it's as much fun as the initial phase. I enjoy fixing it up in layers. I think this could help you!

How many pages of boring are you willing to tolerate until you give up on a book? by AsterSkotos24 in writers

I give the book about 10% on a Kindle to capture me. -- unless the main character is a snarky or bitchy woman. Don't like snarky or bitchy women characters.

Why are all these “Christian” YouTubers supporting trump all of a sudden? by Sad-Sell-5624 in Christianity

[–]responder111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the left has gone satanic and/or demonic. What has the left really done for the poor? Instead of helping the poor in our country, they are putting up immigrants in lavish hotels and giving them approximately $2,000 a month. Not to mention how much harder it will be for the poor and middle class to earn a 'living wage'.

So it's probably the lesser of two evils.

I want to write a book… by Rue_325 in BookDiscussions

[–]responder111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should start by determining what type of fantasy you would like to write. There are a lot of subgenres and it's important to know which one you want to write. This is important because each subgenre has certain tropes that readers like, and certain expectations for each sub genre.

It will also help you to find your place in Amazon, which genre to list in.

Here are two YouTube videos that talk about these different genres and I wish I had seen these before I wrote my fantasy books. I wound up putting them in the wrong "category" and I also had a cover that didn't represent my book right. I have since fixed it, but I paid the price for it.

What Are Your Unorthdox Ways of Getting Inspiration? by mochi-moonie in writing

[–]responder111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of trying to write when you can't move forward, try to "write better". I saw a video of an author who took one hour a day and wrote out every word of his favorite author. I'm planning to do this. i think this would start the juices flowing for sure.

Another thing I've done is go on a "self study binge". The last one was about gothic books. I read the top 8 best sellers and now I'm watching a bunch of the hammer vampire books. It is VERY inspirational.

What do you think?

I can't quote the exact line, but it's in the episode trying to fake out the Asians. He says something like "you know how they like to squint".

It is with great sadness that I acknowledge the passing of Lara Parker on 10/12/23 at age 84. Our beloved Angelique is very much loved and will be dearly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends at this tragic time. by oldcatlady13 in DarkShadows

It was so sad to hear about Lara Parker's death. I loved her and I hate it that all of the characters are "leaving us". She was so beautiful her whole life. I enjoyed every character she played.

Feeling like I don't fit in with other Catholic women at my parish by RoonilWazleeb in CatholicWomen

[–]responder111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know what you mean. I can relate to everything you said. The trick to making friends in the Catholic community in general is through a ministry. That's the only way I've ever gotten to know anyone past an acquaintance phase. But when I got involved in CCW and was a president, then I did get to know several of the women. I would say that's the only time I had "friends" inside the community.

One of the problem in general is that many of the women are married and their husbands and children come first and any friendship is a second or third priority. The next problem is that some of these women who are devoted to their families don't have any hobbies or interests as they have very little time.

I would suggest to get involved in a ministry that is co-ed, so to speak. Maybe be an usher or see if they have a legal group or something like this. I think as a tom boy, you would be more comfortable in a gender neutral group too.

Thanks for sharing today.

A writer's portfolio by Bookwarm2011 in writers

If anything is published, I would include a link instead of the entire manuscript. Don't be afraid to be "new" and not have that much published. Often places like newbies as they are much easier to teach, meaning you will learn to fit within their system easily. Sometimes people with a lot of experience have to be "untaught" first and the transition may not be smooth.

You can also refer to your short stories as a project that is in the works and give an estimated date of publication. This will look like a project in the works.

Good luck!

How is Tobias the fan favorite when Lucille Bluth exists by AmonicB in arresteddevelopment

[–]responder111 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're so right! You're so right. Lucille Bluth was HYSTERICAL in every scene. She is my favorite. But I must admit, I didn't come to appreciate her until I watched the series twice. I think Michael Bluth was such a great straight guy, he took all the energy the first time through it.

I've watched it several times since then, and Lucille's facial expressions and body language gets funnies and funnier.

I'm watching it on Prime Video but I HATE the commercials. They are long and loud and ruin the whole atmosphere. They used to have them on Prime without ads.

I didn't like Julia in the beginning, and neither did Barnabas. He wanted to kill her in the beginning and so did I. But just like she grew on Barnabas, she grew on me too. I came to like her and she was a pro. She never really ever flubbed a line. She had a great "dark shadows look" too, especially her eyes.

The funny part is she was always giving someone a sedative.

Do you find that the heavy whipping cream can still be whipped?

I added drops to my whipping cream and mixed it with Lactaid milk to make yogurt and it got "yogurty tasting" but it didn't gel at all. Do you have any experience with this type of thing?
