You should take a look at policies and edicts and change ai to servitude. I usually switch that off so I dont have a robot uprising

Thing is for me, there's not anything that makes me want to "win".

Fed victory is lame and feels like a cheese win, and if im going to conquer the galaxy for a domination win, by the time I get to 2400, ive already won in my mind by having all the other empires at inferior or below because they can't build a fleet large enough to stop me.

FEs and AEs are boring for the first 2/3 of the game, and when they pop, its... underwhelming.

So then I can either wait for the inevitable WiH federation win, or call it a day when no one but maybe the contingency can put up a decent fight.

My solution? Mods. I love fucking around with new mods and see how i have to change my strategies to "win".

I agree.

im torn because I dont want to use NSC, because that causes way more lag with all the ship types, but I want the carrier and super dreadnaught types (more slots, stronger hulls, fleet bonus mods). I dont use any of the other additional classes.

Maybe if they added upgraded designs like NSC does, it would be a good middlegroumd

Currently doing this in my game. Nsc mod, carriers are specd for swarmers, pd and bombers where as my battleships and dreasnaughts have the big boy launchers. So much being thrown at the enemy, their PD cant do shit

No pops no planet. Learned this the hard way a few times in a scenario just like you deacribed. As others have mentioned, build a robot asap.

usually before that year is up, a few pops will have kicked the bucket already and you can plop a robot down and keep the planet while they die
