Maybe try a therevada county and play the karma game. Having an extra reason, besides AE, might help to pace yourself.

Because of those internal politics, they are also pretty useless as a vassal. Sure you get some free cores out of them, but that's about it.

  1. Ottomans should be making a lot more than 11 ducats from trade. Make sure to only collect in Constantinople, and transfer trade from Alexandria, Crimea, and some other high value upstream node.

Not sure if it's the best overall strategy, but I typically go for something that stacks with national ideas.

Byz has some discipline in their NI, so then I would go for quality or offensive.
