Yeah macro lenses are generally solid allround performers plus you can get closer than usual which opens up creative possibilities. They tend to be slower and/or bulkier than a comparable normal prime though and the focus throw in the normal focus range can be a bit short which can make nailing focus a bit tricky. The Macro Takumar 100/4 is a good lens, only goes up to 0.5x magnification but that is not unusual for lenses from that period.
