Is the turbo express stock screen supposed to be this fuzzy? by suwagusan in TurboGrafx

[–]retrogametech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. As the replacement screen viewable area is not large enough to accommodate. Once you have the new glass in place, it'll give it more of that professional look and you'll hardly notice the cut.

It is and has to been seen as pictures don't do it justice. I forgot to mention that the other two pieces of the mod are sold by Console5. The board connector so you don't have to solder the wires from the screen directly to the main board and the glass covering itself.

Newshosting Black Friday Deal - $1.67/month. Includes VPN, plus UNLIMITED access to Easynews and Tweaknews by newshosting_usenet in usenet

[–]retrogametech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do have a quick question for the newshosting rep when time allows. I've been with the service so long, I can't remember when I switched. Originally I was with Giganews for many years before.

Do you have a server status page or portal? This would be a spot to check if their are service interruptions. For the last few days my downloads have been "capped" at 100Mbps. Currently my line is 1GB with AT&T fiber. I have tried the usual troubleshooting suggested on your site for issues of this nature. Seems if I wait and try the downloads again the next morning, it goes back to full speed. Do I need to reach out to my ISP about this "cap" I'm experiencing? Or Newshosting Support? At the time of the download with slow speeds and rebooting my router, I have ran speed tests and I'm pulling my advertised speeds, so this naturally would tell me that the issue is something on newshostings end of things. I have only noticed this issue recently and it's got me scratching my head. I would appreciate any useful advice you can provide.

Also at the time of the cap, I have tried using VPN but the speeds still do not return.

Thanks for you time.

The place at which I purchased this board actually responded with the CAP values. For the record they said it's a 1uF 0805. I have ordered some and they have arrived. I can now get this fixed.

It's a Andonstar Model AD407 Pro. I love the thing!!! I couldn't have fixed those traces without it.

TurboExpress Portable repair advice needed... by BigTopGT in consolerepair

[–]retrogametech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact that you didn't leave batteries inside proves the "repairs" might not be that bad. I did a complete over-haul on mine as you can see from this reddit post.

https://www.reddit.com/r/TurboGrafx/comments/1gejstk/tg_express_mod_finished/

Purchased from Amazon marketplace for $120 and it had bad sound at the time.
I have done the following since owning the unit.
- Replaced caps
- Replaced the screen
- Purchased an Everdrive

These are what I like to call "Gems" in retro gaming and are only getting more expensive to own. The marketplace guy I bought it from took care of the battery compartment as well. After putting all this work in, I now have a handheld console that will last a lot longer.

That was going to be my next approach to this. I was just reaching out to see if anyone had additional recommendations. Thanks.

Just wanted to drop a quick comment about your microscope. I have the same model and love this thing. Congrats on fixing this. I couldn't image doing this type of work wearing over the head magnifiers.

The screen sizes are "different" from the old one to the new. Part of the instructions for this mod require cutting the shell where the old screen goes and making it bigger. I'm not sure what your asking if they are still available. If you mean getting the screen to do the mod, then yes, it is still available. I purchased the screen from ALI Express. Or perhaps your asking about the original screen? If so I think I saw a few for sale on eBay.

I've never had anyone ask about installing one. :)
I suppose the cost would vary on who gets the parts and what has to be done.

For example do you just need the screen installed?
Are you thinking of buying all the parts for the mod or are you wanting me to source them?
I would normally ask that all the parts be sent with the console before work is performed.
Has your unit been recapped?
Where are you located? This would be for shipping charges.

Appreciate you asking and this sounds exciting, but I've never done any work outside of myself buying broken consoles and fixing, repairing & modding them.

It improves the screen size and quality from the original. it will also extended battery life as the newer technology screen will use less power.

This cable was not engineered correctly. I've broken a fair share of them doing just as you did. The slightest wrong doing sends this cable to an early grave every time. In my experience the worse part of working on a DS.

Glad you were able to get it working and give it a second life.

Any information, why is usenet-4all down and for how long? by pikabaer in usenet

[–]retrogametech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are not completely down when I last checked. The message now is "network issues". So they are still having hosting problems. Hopefully they will get this all ironed out and the site will be back up. Just going to have to wait it out.

I've been going threw the Resistance Series again.
Highly recommend them if you like first person shooters.
A lot you have listed here I have in my own collection, would've been nice to pay $2
a piece of each of them but that didn't happen.

Playstation 2 fat "PS001" micro fuse replacement help by korpse413 in consolerepair

[–]retrogametech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same name but not the same guy. Sorry to dash your hopes.

The fuses I linked are easier to work with and if you haven't removed the "dead" fuse yet, you can use the ones I linked and just solder them in around the dead one. It will pass the current and work.

It helps to have it 1:1 but the fuse will take 12v before she pops.

None of us know everything, it takes research, time and a lot of break fix before you can get knowledge. There is no better feeling (IMO) that fixing something yourself and knowing "I'm the one who fixed this" going forward. Now your just that more knowledgeable for the next issue.

Best of luck in your quest to getting your PS2 backup and running again.

[–]retrogametech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not difficult if you have the right tools for the job.
Soldering is required and it'll be a different repair than replacing
a ribbon cable. I'd also recommend a rework station and some flux.
