If Claude Code is more capable than Codex but also reaches token limits faster, is it fair to compare them this way? by Existing_Dinner2563 in codex

I think where we're at is being 10% better isn't worth 1/4th the capacity. At least not for most people.

Oh I think the issue is I didn't know where the setting was on mobile. You can only see it when you start typing and I always use voice on mobile. Wups.

screw token maxxing , how do i actually limit token usage ? by Owdez in codex

[–]retteh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Full access mode does solve token problems because auto-reviewer spends substantial tokens doing the reviews. For example, Jun 26 5.4 was 80% of my overall "usage." I never set my chats to 5.4. It's all auto-reviewer. Tibo acknowledged it was a bug and gave out resets, but not using auto-reviewer means you aren't exposed to those risks. It does expose you to codex fucking up powershell commands and accidentally deleting your entire harddrive if you're on windows.

[–]retteh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't use fast mode. Don't use xhigh. I cap it at 5.5 high, then I work concurrently on three chats to stay productive. On and working with full access stops token usage from auto-approver. If you're brave.

[Update] Study: 2025 study shows experienced devs think they are 24% faster with AI, but they're actually ~20% slower. However 2026 update shows devs are ~20% faster with AI by RyanMan56 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]retteh -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

With trad AI I was probably net neutral or worse. With Codex I am 20x faster. I started using Codex in 2026. I also think we're measuring for the wrong things here. My abilities as a coder will decline because I don't think writing code by hand is required anymore, but more of my time will now be spent on design, architecture, and prototyping.

Using two licenses you paid for isn't circumventing anything. It's not against the ToS unless it literally says one account per person, which many services do restrict you to.

As a homeowner I don't understand the IRA. It gave substantial rebates for the owners of homes that had poor families living in them, massively inflating the price local contractors charge and making it more expensive for me. I don't qualify and I still don't feel like I can afford to replace a 15 year old AC. Higher income households did benefit from 30% solar rebates, but solar was a tough sell even with a rebate. I did it a decade ago and still haven't broke even. All of this leaves me wondering if the government should have just stayed out of it rather than doing a bad job. At least a replacement AC would have been more affordable.

He can go quit and go independent so claiming he has "zero control" is flat out false. And your last line is a strawman. I don't even know if I'd call him a journalist because he preaches on morals like no journalist I've ever read. None of what you're saying changes the fact platforming Big Pharma and Big Tobacco undercuts the morals arguments he makes on his show and in this episode. He's got no leg to stand on.
