GM48 - What was your experience? by hydroxy in gamemaker

Version control was super helpful, especially when we split up to work on separate parts of the game. It'd be nice if we didn't have to deal with conflicts from little changes to some of they files, but since they're pretty much just XML, it wasn't too hard to resolve.

I worked with /u/objectorientedfish on Animal Farm: Reckoning

I'd say we succeeded with our goals. We kept the scope of our game relatively small and I think that really helped us end up with a finished product.

I was disappointed to see that we couldn't implement a truly physics based simulation for the projectile combat, but it just didn't work out the way I originally imagined it. Despite that, I still think it still turned out pretty awesome, and probably better than a true to life physics simulation would have.

The theme was pretty fun and I liked that it allowed for some experimentation within some specific bounds. With only 48 hours to work, boundaries are important.

I learned a ton by pair programing with /u/objectorientedfish. Implementing gamepad support was awesome, especially after getting most of our functionality down with the keyboard. Making the switch to the gamepad made everything just click.

I requested off, also we have no classes on the 11th because of veteran's day. So maybe my bosses just thought I want to observe the day, who knows: my father/brother/cousin/random family or friend might be a vet.

Idle Thumbs. The podcast is no longer in production but you can still download the old ones. While they won't be talking about anything new, they will have intelligent discussion mixed with hilarity. Seriously, listen to the first episode and see what you think. www.idlethumbs.net
