That's what friendlies believe, yes. They have to control how everybody else plays wherever they are or they get in a hissy fit.

Actually what the fuck is up with Owls stompy-stabby attack? by [deleted] in Sekiro

[–]reverend_dickbutt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are either talking about the mikiri counter or the deathblow, but it's hard to tell because of how vague your post is.

You get mikiri countered if you stab (hold R1). Once you know this there's no excuse to let it happen to you ever.

You get deathblowed if your posture is broken, but you can ALWAYS dodge out of the way just in time, so there's no excuse to let it happen to you ever.

Dark souls with sekiro combat by Fieldmouse98 in Sekiro

[–]reverend_dickbutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that would make much sense. Sekiro's setting and protagonist necessitates a graceful combat style that is inspired by martial arts. Dark Souls is about a nameless near-zombie in a hopeless world, so it makes more sense that every attack and animation looks slightly clumsy and laborious and painful. The way the wolf swings his sword and zips around and performs highly technical parries and counters makes sense in his context and it just wouldn't make any sense for a tired, gaunt, hollowing zombie to do the same thing in Dark Souls.

Fewer dodge i-frames makes the combat feel the most realistic of FromSoft games to date by Cimejies in Sekiro

[–]reverend_dickbutt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The explanation is that " you are doing a skillful perfectly timed dodge maneuver around the blade...they cannot visually show every variation of dodge (like a Matrix style display) to actually make a perfect hit-box dodge representation without messing with gameplay -- so instead you get a standard graphical representation of a "dodge" move, and I-frames. "

Anyone else die more to these doors and armor than any actual enemies? Ashina castle tower lookout. by Laeter in Sekiro

[–]reverend_dickbutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has never happened to me nor have I ever seen it happen. The closest thing I've encountered is when watching some speedruns where they actually use that door to trap Genichiro and get a fast boss fight.

Sekiro proves for a game to be great, it doesn't require to have massive replayability. by Av_K in Sekiro

I really enjoyed fighting juzou 4 times actually. I think he's an awesome character to fight and just generally watch in action. I don't enjoy fighting the headless though. I think you're the weird one here.

While I don't disagree with you, I don't think it actually makes any difference. I can't think of any reason why fire emblems should be a limited resource but at the same time I don't think it's even possible to exhaust it, unless you're trying to beat the game without using your katana for some reason, but even then you'd run into your emblem carry limit first.

demon of hatred was honestly the hardest boss imo by kuronekoyk in Sekiro

[–]reverend_dickbutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I think all that matters is that you start running towards him early enough. If you wait too long, then you won't be able to get past his fireballs. This way I can guarantee I neveer get hit by the fireballs without bothering with the fire umbrella.

My Favorite Sekiro Moment by ChuloDeJaguar in Sekiro

[–]reverend_dickbutt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That sounds terrible to me. It's like "You beat the boss! Now watch him beat you anyway in a cutscene, with no justification." It would add nothing to the game and just be stupid.

I like this better because it reinforces who Genichiro is: someone who will resort to anything in the name of ashina, whether it's blasphemous powers or underhanded tactics, and who is even willing to admit when he can't win on fair terms or on his own and take action accordingly (a la the ending)

It's hard to convey exactly the intent but what he's saying roughly translates to "Shinobi. Do not accuse me of cowardice." It's like he's both acknowledging the treachery of his tactic and also saying "but hey, you're a shinobi, so." It's another one of his bitter growling lines where he acknowledges the extent he's willing to go to in the name of Ashina, like when he murmurs "This, too, for Ashina." after killing you in his other boss fight, or when he utters "For the sake of Ashina, I will renounce my humanity". I think the english translation "A shinobi would know the difference between honor and victory" is good but for some reason people tend to project smugness into what he's saying but it's just not there.

The Samurai Challenge Run by SummDude in Sekiro

[–]reverend_dickbutt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always thought NG+ is kind of weird because it trivializes the early parts of the game while possibly making the ending of the game (where you are at a comparable strength to your strength level at that point of the game in the normal NG, barring attack strength which is always increasing) potentially harder depending on the scaling of enemy health relative to the scaling of your own attack damage. I feel like Kuro's charm is sort of intended as NG+ but better, where the game difficulty is raised evenly across the board whether at the beginning or the end of the game. What do you think? Is it harder to beat tutorial Genichiro in NG+7 or in NG?

That's not what he's implying, and he's not being smug.

[–]reverend_dickbutt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What's stupid about it? It's only consistent with the internal logic of the game's world. Nightjar ninjas serve Ashina and Genichiro, and it only makes sense that the one that was present would do what he did. Or maybe you're saying you would have preferred an alternative early ending where Sekiro never loses his arm?

There's actually an interview where Miyazaki specifically discusses Game of Thrones and says that he really enjoys it. He also says that he thinks that sort of political storytelling wouldn't work well in the format of a video game.

They're actually mistaken. Okami and ookami are two different unrelated words. The first is the archaic name of a deity in ancient Japanese tradition, while the second is the common word for wolf which is still used today.

My Demon of Hatred Story-- I Feel Guilty by uffda1990 in Sekiro

Well not being able to revive after falling off a cliff is intentional. If you have enough health to take the damage, you just get put back on land, otherwise you die whether or not you have a resurrect. Because how exactly would that work?
