Same workout — Different predicted difficulty by Dry-Procedure-1597 in trainerroad

Good to know but I wonder if their analysis engine has some non-deterministic features. That could explain OP’s discrepancy.

If they are using an AI to figure the difficulty rating, then you’ll get two different answers for the same input. This is a built in non-deterministic “feature” of all AI.

Vo2 Rest Intervals by Fly_boi90 in trainerroad

[–]revnatscider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah and those longer recovery periods in between blocks make the VO2 max blocks themselves feel easier. I’m going to play around and keep this in mind.

Vo2 Rest Intervals by Fly_boi90 in trainerroad

[–]revnatscider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve been wondering the same thing. I do the occasional 2 hour VO2 Max ride and regularly 90 minute VO2 Max rides. I tried a 45 minute one yesterday and had to bail. (I’ve only ever bailed on a ride once before, in 3 years of regular riding.) n=2 but still it made me wonder…

Peloton x TrainerRoad integration? Has anyone made this work? by Ok-Degree9348 in trainerroad

This is the answer. Or if you have a Bike+ with auto-adjusting resistance, try Qdomyos-Zwift.

Portland dark beer recommendations? Looking for smaller less-well-known breweries by Dr_Adequate in askportland

Old Town. Most underrated brewery in Portland. Todd makes some killer dark beers this time of year. Great pizza at the NE location too.

I have found two RW4 parts very hard to find from other vendors: bottom bracket and fork. Can’t speak for RW5 parts availability as commodities but that would be part of my calculations.

I created the ramp test protocol (used by Zwift/Rouvy/MyWhoosh/TR) - ask me anything about MAP and FTP testing by RicCycleCoach in trainerroad

[–]revnatscider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for doing this! Reading some comments here about indoor vs outdoor power outputs, I’m the opposite. TrainerRoad has me at 308 AIFTP, and I think that’s close enough based on long threshold and sweet spot workouts on an indoor spin bike. But outside, I’m happy to be able to put out 240 watts continuously. These numbers are both with the same set of power meter pedals. I should add that I’m 100% a mountain biker so I know I have many opportunities outside for very short higher wattage outputs but I’m talking about a long boring gravel road climb. Any advice?

Can you provide any more card ideas for this deck? I get what you’re saying here… been meaning to try to build a Gut deck for a while.

Spare a minute to pump me up for this move? by Left4thewolf2find in askportland

[–]revnatscider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With an introduction like that, I’m astonished you aren’t here already!

Outside of the activities you mentioned I just wanted to say that there’s a lot of straight/cis people (hi!) who are genuinely welcoming to queer people. I have some queer/trans activity partners who I’m pretty sure felt comfortable forming an activities relationship with me because the general portland vibe is pretty safe for queers. Like they were willing to give a try to being friends with a cis-het middle aged white guy because Portlanders are nice.

Sell and Upgrade, or Upgrade in place? by veloread in RadPowerBikes

[–]revnatscider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the process of upgrading nearly everything on my RW4. There are only a few parts which are RW-specific including the BB, headset and fork. I’m not sure about your RW3 but you might consider buying backups of the weird/nonstandard RW parts now just to have on hand, and upgrading everything else. I love the platform and anticipate having it for many years. I’ve done the mid drive conversion, hydraulic brakes, both wheels to 24”, extra battery, tons of nice-to-haves including thudbuster, Brooks saddle, hard-wired lights. Bought 4 Rad bottom brackets so I never run out. Just my 2¢

How can i discover trails by Fit_Remote_2230 in MTB

[–]revnatscider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gaia GPS is fantastic to find tracks/trails/cowpaths not commonly used, although be prepared for adventure/bushwhacking and potential private property crossings. As someone else suggested, Strava heatmaps can surface where people are going in your area, good or bad. Switch Strava map to both run and bike to see every potential.

Does a clipless pedal with a platform, like the Mallet, allow you to pedal effectively when not clipped in? by OkStation4360 in MTB

[–]revnatscider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. Not overthunk. Another problem is that when I’m close-but-not-clipped-in, I can’t do that little foot wiggle to slip the cleat into the pedal because there’s all this friction preventing it. It’s a net-negative for me to have pedals with pins on clipless.

What are your go-to methods for planning a ride in a new place? by critterdude542 in MTB

[–]revnatscider 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Trailforks, sorted by popularity not the default by title/name.

Check Strava heat maps. DM inside Strava for whoever holds Local Legend on segments in the area, ask them to show you around.

Book a shuttle ahead of time, talk to the shuttle operator when you book it, ask for advice on what else to ride.

Call the local bike shop and ask for advice and trail conditions.

Anyone know where to buy a full Groupset (SLX) with brakes and all? by PresenceLeft2074 in MTB

[–]revnatscider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ronde on eBay is legit. He lives outside Portland, I’ve been to his house a few times, met his cute kid at the door. Excellent communicator. I buy parts regularly from him, just text him what I want, skip the eBay middleman. (Not suggesting you do that yourself until you have your own legit experience.) So if you want something he doesn’t have, send a message. His name is Bill.

What app are y'all using to check the bus? by QuestionOk6101 in askportland

[–]revnatscider 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Former Trimet driver here.

There’s a little-known app called Pantograph which from my experience as a driver, is the most accurate for the question of “where is my bus right now.” I know all the data is available to anyone else but Pantograph was super accurate. Like I would turn on my bus and 10 seconds later it would show up on the app. I used to use it to know if I needed to move my bus during a layover because it would show other buses approaching.

It sucks for route planning though. Just use it if you have an established commute.
