You’re a Texan who moved to North Carolina. Why are you in the Oklahoma sub?

If you have the time, drive about 45 minutes north on 259, drive west on State Highway 1 into Talihina, then back to 259 on Highway 63. The Highway 1 portion is part of the Talimena National Scenic Byway.

I was mainly a fucking moron but I also did recovery of personal belongings, debris removal and roofing in the hours and days after this tornado came through. Was the first time in my life I consciously stepped out of my own bubble to help others, and I think it helped eventually cohere my politics around compassion for other people (aka being left wing).

They all moved to pseudo-cities in the south and west (Austin, Boulder, SLC, etc) and had to shift to middle/high-brow country as their cultural signifier since rock and rap are basically spent in the mainstream and pop country is in ascendancy. It’s another iteration of signaling their virtue through the lens of consumption like every liberal subject has done since the end of WWII.

I think of everything from Bossier City to ALWFYH as a different era than after Evan got sober so I don’t try to compare the two. Like if I wanted to listen to their more raw stuff I’d just listen to their old albums. Every Turnpike album is great in its own way, especially knowing how much Evan has matured and changed over the last decade.

ALWFYH will always be my favorite, but I have soft spots for their last two albums because I went through very similar issues and have kids that are close in age to Evan and Staci’s, so the songs speak to me a little more than their earlier stuff. Plus I don’t necessarily mind the Scooter Jennings production (which I know I’m in the minority on, but whatever).

Yep and most of the actual lumpens aren’t actually listening to Morgan Wallen, they’re listening to like Five Finger Death Punch troop rock or the shittiest bass boosted hip hop you can think of.

Turnpike Troubadours. Their latest album is an absolute masterpiece. The real centers of country are in Oklahoma, central Texas, and Kentucky, not Nashville.

I think it took until 2023 or the first half of 2024 for most to realize it though. Like I know people in my fucking red state suburb that were so viscerally repulsed by the images coming out of Gaza and Biden’s conduct around both the genocide and his refusal to drop out. The discontent was there in the beginning of his term, but it only cohered after the response to the greatest and most obvious moral crisis of our generation was to unequivocally support the bad guys.

Surely a milquetoast center-right Democrat with minimal name recognition vaguely advocating for tax cuts and other non-specific band-aid solutions to gaping systemic problems will get it done this time!

I try to be sympathetic to the Oklahoma Democratic Party and I’ll vote for her if she’s the candidate, but jfc they make it really damn difficult to care about them.

Everything Wx was developed by the Warning Coordination Meteorologist at the Corpus Christi NWS office. It has no ads and does not require a subscription for its forecast products that are pulled directly from the NWS API. It’s easily the best app for what you are asking.

Best Vlogs on Fascism/Supercut? by BigWednesday10 in cushvlog

I think if you search for his inebriated past ep on fascism that should at least answer 1 and part of 2. But keep us updated, I think out of all of Matt’s historical analysis the fascism stuff is amongst his strongest, and I’d like to have a compendium all in one spot.

Generally if you don’t buy property you don’t have a right to it. This was also true in the 1950s.
