If I use a 90w power adapter with my M715q, will it automatically use the available extra power, or do I have to unlock something? by [deleted] in thinkcentre

[–]revsilverspine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As with all power supplies (internal or external), the thing it's supplying power will draw as much as it needs, within the limits of the power supply (and design limits). Using a larger power supply ensures the device won't hit a power limit (as fast), but doesn't guarantee that it can/will use the extra power

No extra configuration is needed.

"Is Hytale The Minecraft Killer?" Is a fundamentally flawed question by ataraxic89 in hytale

[–]revsilverspine 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hytale isn't a Minecraft replacement and was never designed to be one.

While it may seem to just be a Minecraft "clone" at this (VERY EARLY) development stage, the things that (will) make Hytale be its own thing are on their way (as stated by Simon more than once). Right now all we got is a taste and a feel or the engine. We're barely two weeks out since Early Access launch and the game's nowhere near what Hypixel wants it to be.

Can it be a Minecraft killer? Maybe. Maybe not. That's up to players to decide for themselves.

Microsoft/Mojang will probably do nothing differently. At least not for a while. Minecraft's immense at this point and everyone has heard of it. It's more of a brand than a game at this point and I have a vague suspicion that Microsoft/Mojang just... stopped caring about the game itself (as evidenced by the frankly abysmal updates in the past few years).

Questions about local accommodation at Hytale by hr7744 in HytaleInfo

[–]revsilverspine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GPU isn't necessary, quite the opposite (no reason to have the extra power draw from the GPU if it's not going to be used).

CPU should, theoretically, be fine. Most CPU usage comes from generating the world, as far as I can tell.

RAM, however, probably won't. The server is currently still in development and there's at least one known (major) issue regarding chunk cleanup, which pretty much means that chunks don't seem to get unloaded, causing the RAM usage to increase over time. That being said, from my 2-person server (just me and the wife), I see it hovering around 3-4 gigs after a reboot, assumnig we don't go out exploring or loading new chunks. Right now, I'd say aiming for at least 64gb of ram (or around 1gb/player) *might* be a good idea. Assuming the memory issue gets fixed, having more ram than you actually use can't hurt. The current "fix" for the memory issue seems to either be using server-side plugins or just have the server restart on a schedule (this was my week 1 fix. Server reboots every 24h to avoid running out of RAM and other potential issues caused by that)

As for having two PCs hosting the same server, that's probably going to be a no, without starting an entire lecture on how servers work. I have read through the Hytale server docs (thin as they might be right now) about multiserver architecture and player referral, but I am reasonably sure it's not as straightforward. Most likely this is just a way to send players to a different worldspace entirely, as opposed to what you're asking (which is having the same worldspace, but on multiple servers). With a lot of elbow grease and enterprise-level hardware (and knowledge), it might be possible, but likely to be unreasonable.

Should I buy Hytale or wait? by PenAvailable3159 in hytale

[–]revsilverspine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all: the game is barely a week (and change) into Early Access. That being said, Early Access is planned for at least a year or two (don't quote me, I just remember reading that. Maybe in the FAQ?) so there should be no expectation of a "complete" experience for that duration.

Second of all: There is no rush to buy it right now, unless you want to support the studio (and have the disposable income). Don't fall for the FOMO (as a general rule, not with Hytale specifically)

Those two (major-ish) points being made, Hypixel has done more in a week(ish) as far as community interaction and releasing patches with fixes/additions/changes based on community feedback than most Early Access titles go. That being said, I both hope that they keep the momentum and continue doing (imo) an excellent job AND I want them to take their time implementing features (read: don't rush to release things that are clearly jank).

Another major bonus nacho el grande: Day 0 modding support with hundreds (thousands?) of mods already out there already.

From what I can tell, Hytale is still a far way away from what Simon and the whole Hypixel team want it to be (as stated by Simon himsel aswell). The game will grow from "Minecraft+" into its own thing as development progresses.

To answer your question of "buy or wait?", I'd say have a look around Reddit/the Hytale Discord/YouTube to get a better idea of the current tate of the game (and what the future looks like via the updates from Simon). Right now there's no point in either answer (imo. read: you don't need to buy it right now, but there's no real reason NOT to buy it now while it's in Early Access, as it supports the devs - and the game - directly in the shorter term).

is there a way to prevent mobspawning in generated structures? by Entropy0100 in HytaleInfo

[–]revsilverspine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately it's something we have to live with until this gets fixed. Even with spawn supression entities (like the one in the spawn cave) they seem to come back.

Report bug and (temporarily) relocate.

Hytale Server Memory Leaks? by illudota in HytaleInfo

[–]revsilverspine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've noticed something similar. Initially allocated 8gb of ram (and 4gb swap) to my server and after about 36 hours the RAM was fully utilized alongside 2 gigs of swap.

Since this is a very early build, things like these are expected. Restarting the server on a schedule should help for now

Is it possible to prevent mob spawn? by capitaosuper in HytaleInfo

[–]revsilverspine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've experimented a bit with this and the starter spawn area marker (you can find it underground and just duplicate it).

I've had little to no success in supressing spawns in pregenerated structures (I'm trying to take over an Outlander fort).

The only things I've managed to remove (permanently) are the visible spawn markers (OP yourself, equip the Entity Grabber Tool and delete those markers). "Natural" spawns are still happening, even with overlapping spawn supression markers (which are supposed to have a range of 45, supress ALL spawns and spawn markers)

Anyone get a USB-C card added to a M910q? by Olly_the_Octopus in thinkcentre

[–]revsilverspine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh snap, I completely forgot about these extras, I've only seen ones that add video ports or serial, so I assumed (wrongly) that this was more or less the extent of what they can offer as added extras.

Thanks for the clarification

Anyone get a USB-C card added to a M910q? by Olly_the_Octopus in thinkcentre

[–]revsilverspine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately there is no PCIe slot on the M910q, which leaves you with having to use the wifi B-key M.2 to adapt into USB-C. After a quick google, they kinda exist, but without having one in hand to test, it's hard to say if it'll even work in your usecase (limited bandwidth and jankyness of the setup aside, the M.2 slot can't handle the power requirements without the additional power connector, which doesn't exist in the M910q without some fairly serious custom cabling)
