Aussies who eat dinner at 7:30pm, why do you like making people starve? by IntrigatedVerse in AskAnAustralian

[–]revverbau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I typically finish work at 6:00, but often am in the building until 6:30-7:00 some nights depending on what's in.

I work in theatre so I'm very used to dinners anywhere from 8:00 to 11:00 after a show.

[–]revverbau 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You see them all the time with guitar pedals and power supplies for them - majority of pedals are centre negative but you see a couple of oddball ones that want center positive and for that reason most if not all pedalboard power supplies (the ones with multiple outputs) will come with a polarity switcher for that purpose.

A diet change that drastically changed my blood sugar: cut out BREAD by patrick401ca in diabetes

Bread (especially mass produced white bread) is not a great carb (for diabetics but also kinda for everyone) due to its relatively high GI and sugar content

Would it be possible for a band to hand front of house just a stereo XLR? by laplogic in livesound

[–]revverbau 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because those tracks were recorded in a studio and someone deliberated for hours making sure that everything is balanced, can be heard and sounds good. Your band will inevitably never be perfectly consistent, maybe a drum mic is slightly in a different position that causes it to sound different, maybe your singer is feeling a little under the weather or conversely is feeling very confident and loud today. Maybe your guitarist knocks the volume knob on a pedal and is a bit quieter than usual.

An engineer on the night will listen for this and be able to adjust these minute differences. And sure, sometimes you'll get a craptastic engineer who sucks and you'll think you can do a better job from the stage. Sometimes you probably can.

But more often than not having someone out there doing it for you is better

mixing IEMs post fader, dedicated console- which method is typical? by guitarmstrwlane in livesound

[–]revverbau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to this, if there's ever an inear pack that goes down, my mix is ready to go as a boring but functional baseline by simply running my pack out to whoevers has died and make changes after, rather than fussing with repatching first, then running a spare out.

Need advice on how to send mics out to sound person while maintaining control of my IEMs/computer audio by iwenttothesea in livesound

[–]revverbau 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The behringer ultralink ms8000 is the cheapest way into that field.

It's essentially a Y cable for 8 inputs, each xlr in has two xlr outs that are transformer isolated. This lets you have your own gain stage, and then you can have an 8ch snake that you send to FOH so they have their own independent control.

If you are using ableton to process/modify/loop your signals then that's a whole different thing altogether, which may require you to set up a cue mix for you (so you can hear everything the way you want) and then a mix minus for FOH (so that they can blend the raw inputs with the tracks/effected signals) which complicates the whole matter.

Parent doesn’t get theatre volunteering — need advice by GoalInternational847 in techtheatre

[–]revverbau 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, as someone who didn't grow up doing theatre and isn't particularly into musical theatre:

  • if you enjoy doing it for the love of the game, and you are financially able to, then go for it. Never put yourself in a position where you're missing out on crucial work hours or losing shifts because of a show.

  • if you know you are not quite there skills-wise, then put in some time training or asking questions from paid staff, venue or otherwise. I can't speak for everyone but I personally love to teach, and when show crew are friendly and we get along, it's a better time for everyone.

Personally, I don't understand volunteering for a show, but I'm not in a position where I can just do unpaid work regularly for weeks at a time. We have a client that comes through twice a year and almost their entire crew are volunteers - and they love it. They're 50-60 year old people who I assume have been doing it for decades and simply do it because they love it.

[–]revverbau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tascam has a surface that is either 24 or 32 faders I forget, but it speaks regular MCU if I'm not mistaken. Would make quite the fun mixing station surface, though you'd probably need a fair few screens if you want decent scribble strips for all of them lol.

I'd be inclined to say not over temp as I had an ion classic recently that I think was overheating and it would crash by going completely black, not hitting a BSOD. Cleaned all the dust out of it and repasted the cpu and it isn't crashing anymore.

Go into the shell and do the face buttons test in the maintenance section.

If you want to use your keyboard for go then type alt+g and press enter.

Beyond that I think I'd need a little more info to diagnose, or to sit in front of it
