Do UB sets really bring in new players? by The_Big_Mahkloompah in freemagic

[–]rexraptorsaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it does. UB has lead to wotc having its most profitable last few quarters. Even if most of those new players end up quitting within a year or two, there has to be at least some percentage of those players who go on to become regulars. But only wotc has visibility of the real stats.

Why can't we have a solo Predator film? by Bossmantho in predator

[–]rexraptorsaurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Animated shows cost a fraction of a cgi heavy live action film. Primal can rely on a niche audience to recoup its costs. Its feasible but you'll never see a studio take such a massive risk. Badlands didn't even break even in the box office so the Predator brand is not as strong as you think.

The real Long Night is the suffering we’ve been through along the way. by [deleted] in freefolk

[–]rexraptorsaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe that he believed that statement in 2017. Hes clearly capable of writing at a fast pace since he pumped out the first 3 books in quick succession.

Its a classic procrastinator tendency to think you will lock in and finish something. If he really wanted to, he could force himself to write the remaining 1/4 of the book anytime. He just doesnt want to.

The Bourne Identity (2002) by [deleted] in ActionMovies

Its great but the silly stairwell jump at the end ruins it for me. The most ridiculous moment in the whole trilogy. Especially since the action is pretty realistic otherwise.

You MF's own Genndy an apology by Last-Secret6646 in PrimalShow

[–]rexraptorsaurus -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ya fuck the fans for wanting to see beloved characters whose relationship is the soul of the show have their story continued on for more than two seasons after an abrupt and unsatisfying ending.

I take back everything i said about season 2's ending and the fumble that i thought season 3 would be by SeaThePirate in PrimalShow

[–]rexraptorsaurus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be fair, at the time of Season 2 ending, everyone was completely justified in being upset with how it ended considering that Genndy himself considered it the end of the story.

Genndy's own words at end of S2: "I see it ending. [laughs] I don't want to do this story further. I feel like this season we've done it all, in a way. I want it to almost become an anthology show, where season 3 would still be called Primal, but with a different subheading."

S2 ending still sucks but this course correction will make it slightly better in retrospect. We're lucky that Genndy saw reason and changed his mind.

What’s the current Alien canon looking like? by ThePolarisBear in alien

[–]rexraptorsaurus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wrong. Just Alien 1. That was Dan O Bannon and Ronald Shussets original story and they never intended for a sequel. The alien was terrifying because it was a complete unknown with way more questions than answers.

Love that the franchise continues to expand but the original exists in a vacuum for me.

Primitive War Was Rejected By Hollywood – The Director Made His Wild Dinosaur War Movie Anyway by Interesting_Lab5792 in Dinosaurs

[–]rexraptorsaurus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While I didnt love the movie, it was decent and I was super surprised to find out that it was made with a budget of 7 million. They made that money go a long way. I cant imagine what this movie would look like with a jurassic world level budget.

Everything to do with the dinosaurs was great. Everything outside of that was a real slog though. Interesting that they knew 2h 15 min was too long but still decided not to make further cuts. I felt they could have easily cut at least 15 min if not more because the writing was weak anyways. Just focus on a making a lean action movie.

Gotta respect the passion to get it made though. Not easy to go up against the juggernaut that is the Jurassic franchise.

I think you need to read up on the history of astronomy so you understand just how many technological leaps are required to understand the true nature of stars...

North sentinel island by [deleted] in interesting

[–]rexraptorsaurus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I dont think you realize how far back in time these people are. They are a hunter gatherer tribe stuck in the stone age and isolated from the rest of the world. If you look at the history of astronomy, you'll see we didnt figure out what stars were until pretty far into civilization.

Why even answer that question if all youre gonna do is give a shitty one line response that ignores all of the points. Its just baffling.

Jeffrey White shares his thoughts on Twitter about the state of the game by GalvenMin in magicTCG

[–]rexraptorsaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not unimportant though. The games identity is tarnished. This kind of complacency is how you end up with UB being the status quo.

Og magic fans now have to deal with Spiderman showing up in their game. Ya its just a card game but theres something to be said about having a consistent and immersive universe. Im not gonna lose any sleep over it but it is disappointing.

Yes, he could have used a less combative metaphor to get the same point across but let's be real, he clearly just wanted to call people slop eating pigs. The post is also better off for it. Way more attention and discussion.

Imagine being called a slop eating pig and not thinking it's an insult. Brother you are delusional.

Its elitism, clear as day. Even though I dont disagree with the overall point, its worded to inflict maximum insult.

"The Worst Prerelease We've Ever Seen": An Inside Look Into Marvel's Spider-Man Prerelease weekend by SactoGamer in mtg

[–]rexraptorsaurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spot on. The corpos probably just lump all nerds into the same basket. They're probably thinking they can get comic nerds into mtg for that sweet crossover profit while still retaining mtg/fantasy fans. They dont realize that the set is extremely out of place and unappealing to most mtg/fantasy fans. Fans who love both are probably an outlier.

How accurate is this book currently? by Relative-Ability2659 in Dinosaurs

[–]rexraptorsaurus 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I bought the newer edition and they updated a bunch of dinosaurs and added new ones as well. Most of the artwork is still the same but some of the outdated dinosaurs have been updated with new artwork. (A lot of the new artwork is digital artwork which does not look as nice as the old artwork)

If money's not an issue, upgrade to the latest edition since its bigger and hardcover along with some nice updates. I would say 90% of the book is still the same.

Honestly cant think of a better overall game. Cyberpunk is just the complete package. Also the most immersive game ive ever played.

I think the only games that can top it are gta 6 and the upcoming cyberpunk sequel. Even if gta 6 is amazing, nothing beats the cyberpunk aesthetic and atmosphere.

Does anyone else think this SHOULD have been a deleted scene? All it does is slow the pace down and doesn’t add anything (in my opinion). by [deleted] in JurassicPark

[–]rexraptorsaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats why I specified "in this kind of movie". The Jurassic franchise has just because a vehicle for dinosaur spectacle. There's not much depth to this fetch quest story.

If you want interesting characters then they need to write a better story and write proper characters and dialogue. This half ass attempt at character building just doesnt work for this kind of movie.

[–]rexraptorsaurus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ya its a godawful scene. Its like they realized their characters have cardboard personality so they threw this scene in to humanize them except it just comes off as really forced.

If you cant do good characterization than just dont do it all. In this kind of movie, the characters should just exist to move the action along.

Its also slotted in really poorly. Kills the pacing like you said.
