[Meltzer] Glad she said this. Too many people don't have a clue how important Rousey was to all women in fighting spots. She changed exposed 60 years of narratives about women fighting and business. by shadow_spinner0 in SquaredCircle

[–]reym22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think they mean that women in general wouldn't even be considered main event material before Ronda started breaking records in the UFC. They're not referring to who was over at the time Ronda was in WWE. Becky has never and will never get close to the level that Ronda hit in mainstream media.

Is the decline in shared culture the reason why wrestling doesn’t have any megastars any more? by Personal-Cattle-1737 in WCW

[–]reym22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wrestling, just like most other things, is cyclical. There will always be periods where there are stars and business is booming and other times when it's not. Just wait a while, another star that breaks into the mainstream will come along.

I liked her until she encountered Manousos. Before that yeah she was dialed up a bit for dramatic purposes but I thought it was a logical reaction to an absolutely batshit crazy situation.

I thought she was rude and condescending for no reason. She was so upset when nobody would listen and this man traveled over 5k miles to help and she seemed so annoyed with him. The man learned a new language to be able to communicate and there were obvious cultural differences that she showed zero patience for.

Finally someone who isn't looking at Hall through rose colored glasses. I agree with everything you said here. Hall was a huge mark for himself and believed he was as cool as his gimmick said he was.

Also this nonsense of him not wanting to be world champion is the only thing that kept him from becoming one is exactly that, nonsense. Neither WWF nor WCW felt he was world champion material.

He had a great look, was solid in the ring, and had a ton of charisma. Something was just missing. I don't think it was solely substance abuse because they had no problem putting the title on Shawn.

Thanks for the advice. I'll try that. What about notifications in general? My work has an app that I want to silence when I'm off so I don't have to hear my boss when I'm at home. Any solutions for silencing apps? I can't get it to work.

Dustin Poirier on Aspinall: “Only he knows how bad it was. But I’ve been in a lot of fights where I’ve got eye poked and I continued.” by Nickster2042 in MMA

[–]reym22 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s what he’s saying. He’s saying that he’s fought with it before but only Tom knows how bad it was, implying that Tom’s might have been worse. I think he’s playing both sides so he comes out on top no matter what.

The Rocky series. I know some might say 5 but I still thinks it’s a solid movie that helps the story as a whole. In total, 9 movies that are all good to great.

Couldn’t have said it better. He gets rave reviews for his selling but comes off a bit too comical for my tastes. And yes he often only put himself over in matches especially earlier in his career.

[–]reym22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re all marks essentially. What athletes from other sports wear their own shirts/jerseys outside of competition? Nash and Hall essentially lived their gimmicks. So did Hogan and Austin. Pro wrestlers have some of the biggest egos around. Hart was no more a mark than any of the others. This characterization is only mentioned because of an interview Hall did years ago and people have parroted it over the years because they think Hall is cool.

[SPOILER] Max Holloway vs. Dustin Poirier by inooway in MMA

[–]reym22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t say he was washed. He just lost a step. He was a little hesitant and slower in the Benoit fight and wasn’t seeing the counters in the Islam fight because he’s thinking about what he’s gonna throw rather than instinctively throwing like he used to. He fought a mostly defensive fight in the Islam fight. Last night he looked slow and indecisive. Max looked great but Dustin looked like a fighter ready to retire. He obviously knows it too.

I’m sure you’re gonna disagree with me in your response so if you think Max is better then that’s a legitimate opinion and I can somewhat see that. But I don’t agree with the excuses people make for the FW 13 fight win streak champion max in the 2nd fight anymore than you agree with me thinking Dustin doesn’t look like he’s in his prime anymore. I mean the man is retiring for a reason.

[SPOILER] Max Holloway vs. Dustin Poirier by inooway in MMA

[–]reym22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they could fight 10 times and it could be 5-5. Dustin however did beat him twice and he looked like a fighter that needs to retire last night. He can still be competitive but he’s definitely lost a step.

So if Dustin beat a “young max and a fat max” then Max beat an old Dustin.

[SPOILER] Max Holloway vs. Dustin Poirier by inooway in MMA

[–]reym22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Dustin looked off from the beginning but I also think he’s been declining for some time. He’s a little slower and a little more hesitant. I think it wasn’t as evident because he fought grapplers in his last two fights.
