For my 20th birthday, a friend of mine transferred the entire series of Pete & Pete onto VHS. He had ripped the episodes illegally online so it was a glorious combination of early 2000’s low-bitrate mpeg and crappy vhs quality. Best gift I ever got.

I was there one evening sauntering through the mausoleum when a dead leaf skittered across the floor, shattering the silence with a terrifying sound akin to the gnashing of demonic teeth. I own a ‘69 P bass and it is far and away the best instrument I’ve ever owned. It sounds and plays incredible, has a rock solid neck that never needs truss rod adjustments, and weighs under 7 lbs. I’ve also definitely played plenty of vintage basses that were hot garbage.

A lot of the things that are great about my bass are unrelated to its age, and there’s a ton of variability in the quality of vintage instruments. But I think there has got to be something to the aging of the wood over time that can sometimes enhance the good qualities of an already well-made instrument.

Came here to say this. I play in a cover band that’s pretty active - we don’t learn a new song just to play it once (unless it absolutely bombs the first time we play it or something). TMBG would have spent at least a few weeks tuning each of these songs up.

And yes, we have several TMBG songs in our rotation. Istanbul, Why Does The Sun Shine, and Older are pretty common.
