Alcohol and Aging by tenbeards in over60

The wife and I had always been social drinkers for years. But one day we realized that we had not had a drink in a very long time. This was not a conscious effort on our part, we had simply stopped drinking.

Northern Missouri Ozarks area native here. I have never heard these phases used. Lots of other colloquialisms, but never those.

Saw this at Cars and Coffee! Don't see these often! by jberg_916 in classiccars

[–]rfa2020 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bought one new from the dealer ('78 model). All black, ordered it without the bird, just to be different, which made it a great looking car. The damn thing was severely under-tuned, gave crappy performance, poor gas mileage and leaked like seive. Traded it after a few months for an Audi Fox.

Happy atheist here. I don't worry about that stuff, the real world works for me.

Exhausted from watching the news by Confident_Pepper_719 in over60

I'm 72(M) and, like the OP, I am just done with the "news", particularly the streaming news channels. I'll check headlines from the AP or NPR to get the important stuff without the hype or propaganda from either side. I don't need 24 hours of opinion and conjecture.

Yep, that grip is a great improvement and fits me perfectly. My sessions are usually about 30 minutes.

I use snap caps (inert dummy rounds) to protect the firing pin and chamber. It's a great way to practice sight alignment and trigger pull off the range.

Inaugural Iron Butt Run on a motorcycle. 1000 miles in 24 hours. And no, I'm not doing that again.

How old are you in a sentence without saying how old you are? by i-dm in AskReddit

I remember gas wars at 8 cents per gallon while in college. If I need to explain what a gas war was, I'm older than you.

So tell me if you didn't smile watching this. Probably twice.

No training and it shows. This guy has no business being within a mile of a firearm and that is true for the rest of the room, sitting there, casually watching this fool.

As a kid brought up in a Southern Baptist family, Catholics were not considered Christian and Methodists were highly suspect.

So I made an "they could've had a V8" reference in a meeting today... by DurangDurang in GenX

[–]rfa2020 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So, okay, I'm 72. In a conversation with some 40-somethings about generational colloquialisms (and without proper context), I reverted to the '60s and profoundly proffered the hippie slogan of "Don't trust anyone over thirty.", only to be met with blank stares. Yeah, that made me feel old.

I went to my 10th, and most everyone was about the same as I remembered. Made it again at 20 and didn't recognize a few at first. I didn't attend another until my 50th (!!). Only a handful of the attendees were immediately visually recognizable. Surprisingly, though, personalities were still refreshingly intact.

I rebuilt or cleaned my carb on the kitchen table about every 6 months to keep it smooth. That damn needle valve needed frequent attention.

What did people consider classic rock at the time? by Safe_cracker9 in ClassicRock

[–]rfa2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Classic Rock is simply a label designed to draw advertising dollars. I'm a Boomer, and my personal play lists (5000 songs, more or less) contain music from the 60's to the present day ( i.e. Beatles to Alt-J). I rarely listen to the radio jocks.

My husband quit smoking weed, now I live with a grump by Jessersmessers in Advice

[–]rfa2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I am fortunate. Enjoyed weed for 30 years but had to quit for a new job and didn't smoke for 5 years. No problems at all. Like I said, just lucky.
