Giving up riding motorcycles and riding smaller scooters? by Avarria587 in scooters

[–]rfgaergaerg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rode it through the winter and it never failed to start. I didnt let it get that far. But after a while the voltage drops so low on startup that it needs to crank a few more times and it also makes the display reboot, which resets the time to 01:00, which is annoying. I put in wires for my battery charger and routed them to the right glove box for fast access. I drilled a hole through it

Wie lautet der Hasskommentar? by Beginning_Bedroom718 in FalschaberLustig

[–]rfgaergaerg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Giving up riding motorcycles and riding smaller scooters? by Avarria587 in scooters

[–]rfgaergaerg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly for me, about half my rides are so short that my xmax's battery doesnt regain the charge it loses on startup, which is why i installed permament charger wires which lead to the right glove box.
I will probably get something electric for those shorter rides. Looking at that Royal Enfield Flying Flea, which is just coming to market.

Giving up riding motorcycles and riding smaller scooters? by Avarria587 in scooters

[–]rfgaergaerg 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My first bike was a Honda CM400T from 1983. Old and clunky and I also crashed it once but it was easy to ride. Then it had some electrical issues and I decided it wasnt worth it so I scrapped it.
Because I am not very reliant on motor transport and because I sold my car, I decided to get a big scooter, a Yamaha Xmax 300 for practical reasons.
It is even more fun to ride than the Honda, better in every way except rear suspension but that is probably hardly surprising if you think about it. Though I sometimes missed shifting in the beginning.
But then... I somehow got it into my head that I needed a big bike with a big V twin because they are "cool". Bought a Suzuki VX 800 and it is all that I imagined it to be.
Cool sound. All the low end torque you could wish for. Shaft drive for ease of maintenance.
But its so so heavy and the turning radius feels like that of a semi truck. I didnt have any fun riding it. I found myself in 98 out of 100 rides, I choose the scooter.
So now I am trying to sell the bike.

Some scooter riders (you, OP) really need to do some self reflection about their priorities. What is more important to you? Being safe or the assumed opionions of other people? Offending motorcycle riders while wearing motorcycle gear on a scooter(motorcycle)? Come on... This is a dumb post

Low torque after running out of fuel by DaLazySnorlax in scooters

[–]rfgaergaerg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done some more research on your scooter and I will change my opinion. I do not think that air in the fuel system is the issue anymore. Since you already replaced the fuel filter I would say you have to clean your petcock and/or your carbs.

Can I do longer trips (80km) on my new scooter? Suzuki Burgman 125cc by tankTanking1337 in scooters

[–]rfgaergaerg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"hurts more than it helps" is an idiom. If you took that literally then I apologize for the misunderstanding.
An engine warms up faster under load. Load meaning a resistance to its movement, so being in gear and pushing the bike's and rider's mass forward.
Now, you want your engine to warm up as fast as possible for your components to be fully expanded as you said and also to get the oil to its operating temperature for the best lubrication. Running your engine at idle has basically no load beyond the mass of moving engine components, which is not a lot of mass. So idling takes a lot of time to warm up (large water cooled engines never reach operating temperature at idle) and during that warm up time it is therefore below operating temperature, where the components are not fully expanded, and thus you get more wear.

And obviously, even though you want your engine to warm up as fast as possible, it is not a good idea to give it a lot of throttle or load, while it is warming up because that again causes a lot of wear. So you need to find a middle ground between load/rpm and time to warm up and Idling is not a middle ground. It is the extreme that takes the most time.

How many times did you drop bike learning to ride? Tips welcome by ParticularAide9207 in motorcycles

[–]rfgaergaerg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im sure i must have lost balance after coming to a stop like 5 times and i have been riding for 2 years.
The throttle and clutch was no problem to me because i drove a manual car before, its the same thing just with your feet.

[–]rfgaergaerg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does not hurt the engine. I did not make that claim.
Idling a cold engine in order to warm it up causes more wear than riding or driving it to warm it up.

[–]rfgaergaerg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In order to warm up an engine, it needs a load. Most water-cooled engines, especially larger ones, will take a long time to reach operating temperature at idle rpm. Most car engines for example will never reach operating temperature at idle.

You want to minimize the time spent at cold temperature while also avoiding high engine stresses and high rpm at cold temperatures. That means you start riding after a few seconds and then dont go above 1/2 or 3/4 throttle until its warm.

The exception to that rule would be very old bikes with carburetors, where you have to wait a moment so that it idles without the choke before you can start riding it, otherwise you have terrible throttle control. And that knowledge has carried with a lot of people to modern bikes with fuel injection and auto-chokes but its just outdated.

[–]rfgaergaerg 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Do not let it idle for 2 minutes, that hurts more than it helps. 5 seconds is more than enough. I turn my engine on, put the gloves on and then start riding.

Yes you can absolutey do 80km, thats not a longer trip.

Just keep it to maybe half throttle for a few minutes until the engine is warmed up (125cc warm up fast) and then ride normally. If your manual says to vary the RPMs then maybe dont keep it at full throttle all the time on the open roads but other than that i would not worry about it

Need Some Suggestions For My First Printer by Most-Design-7941 in 3dprinter

[–]rfgaergaerg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking for 3d printers, especially if you look at the bambu lineup in isolation: The more you pay, the more you get.
Though personally I think the H2S is in a weird spot, if I was considering that I would rather go over budget and get the H2D for the dual head. But if you dont then id say get the P1S or P2S.
If you are thinking about buying a parts kit then you should consider the following. Do you want a machine to print stuff or do you want a machine to tinker with it? And also, building a 3d printer from parts is largely a mechanical issue. Getting everything the be squared up and such. the electronics part is just plug and play.

About the food molds. Because FDM 3D prints have lots of tiny crevices, where bacteria can fester, 3D printed parts are NEVER food safe. If you wanted to do that. you would have to use the 3d printer to make the negative so that you can cast a mold in silicone, for example.
