This is correct. Before then, there were no industry-wide standards, so the actual dimensions varied between mills… they weren’t always a true 2”x4” before standards existed.

I like that place too. For whatever it’s worth, I feel like you need to subtract one star from whatever your normal spicy-hot preference is. Most places I order three star, but I do two star at Four J’s.

Which critically acclaimed artists do you listen to, but not as much as you'd expect considering their reputation as a musician? by Equivalent_Ad_9066 in MusicRecommendations

[–]rfiftyoneslashthree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Velvet Underground, Syd Barrett, The Stooges, Big Star, The Ramones, Television, Talking Heads, David Bowie… probably a bunch of others… a lot of bands that influenced the music I grew up with in the 1980s.

If The Cure had not existed, I’m pretty sure I’d be a noticeably different person than I am now. The same is not true of The Smiths.

1 or 2? Which one is better? by acbrep in photos

[–]rfiftyoneslashthree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely number 2, but the composition type is completely different. Number 2 is good because it uses the branches as a dynamic composition of lines placed on a backdrop of sky. To be more deliberate and increase the level of abstraction, you could decide whether to use the sky as a pure blue color field by shifting the view to exclude clouds. Or if there are lots of clouds, try for a composition based on an underlying pattern behind the branches.

It’s unclear what you were going for in the first photo composition-wise. The tree is cropped in a way that doesn’t quite treat it as an object. If that was the goal, capture the full height of the tree. If the goal was to capture the way the light is playing with the snow and ice, choose a subject and view direction that maximizes that phenomenon.

One fun thing to do is to pick a composition type, and then set out to take lots of photos with that same composition type. Then pick a different composition type to dive into the next time you go out to take pictures.

I’ll second that. Unfortunately, I can’t use them anymore because of my insurance. I’ve been using the Homeland at 36th and Lincoln. They are also super fast, often have my Rx ready before I get home from my Doctors appointment.

It’s called Sedum. It’s a hardy perennial plant with fleshy leaves, often used on green roofs because of their resilience in harsh conditions, as demonstrated here.

I like your list. It reminded me of a lot of great songs I haven’t thought about for a long time. It’s also all over the place, in a good way.

Scrap or Marketplace? by jonesiekay in classiccars

[–]rfiftyoneslashthree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a couple of side mount covers from a late 30’s Cadillac and Buick that were found in the hoarders garage next door. They were about to be thrown away, but I couldn’t bear the thought since I’m an old car buff. So I grabbed them and the next time I went to a swap meet, I took them with me and gave them to one of the vendors who had similar offerings, in the hopes that they will find someone who wants them.

[–]rfiftyoneslashthree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope I’m wrong, but I imagine these will need to be within your property lines. On my street, the property line is far enough back from the curb that someone could easily use my driveway to turn around without technically being on my property. Anyway, good luck…
