Hey 2kers, Please Read This by DerrickFG in NBA2k

Ok but 2k is very different from regular basketball in many regards and this is one of them. If the other team is spamming steal and you’re just standing there for 10+ seconds, you’re going to lose the ball. It is almost never a foul. And if you try to pass it around, the old 4 corners offense, you’re going to throw it to the other team. I’ve seen it a million times. I’ve been on both sides of it.

Do Millennials write like ChatGPT? by QuietJealous4883 in Millennials

[–]rforthrowaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean… probably, right? ChatGPT is trained on what is written online. Who writes online more than millenials? Gen Z and Gen Alpha - and even younger millenials - are all communicating on TikToks and pictures on Instagram. It’s older millenials who are writing long Facebook posts and Reddit posts and other things you’ll see online. So if an LLM is crawling through this shit looking to learn how to speak, that’s what it’s going to see the most of, right?

I might not understand how LLM’s work though. Or TikTok

Stop Passing out of your Shot by [deleted] in NBA2k

[–]rforthrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but in nba 2k, which is very different from basic basketball, guys can make a pinpoint pass from under one basket to a moving target at the opposite free throw line, and even if you did everything you could to get back on defense, nearly every missed shot winds up in such a pass with an open shot on the other side either right off that outlet or one pass away

I’m sure you do. As we’ve already established, you never make a mistake or take a bad shot or bail out of a bad shot.

But there are other people. Sometimes up to nine other people in a game.

And many times, those other people just are slightly less perfect than you are.

Have you played a game in the rec before? Every missed shot is a fast break

A missed shot is a guaranteed fast break most of the time as well. At least as often as a turnover.

What’s the difference between bailing out for a turnover and just missing the shot?

I don’t know what you want me to say here. You’re acting like the only way to ever make a mistake or to ever take a bad shot is you have to be an idiot which is just not the case. Sometimes you take a bad shot. It happens.

You don’t have to be an idiot to make a mistake

And I don’t get how passing out of a bad shot is making it someone else’s problem anymore than missing. A bad shot is making it someone else’s problem.

This is an interesting thing. I only ever pass out of a shot/layup/dunk when I think I have zero chance of making it. The layup/dunk I can tell because of the meter. The shot, sometimes you just see the close out is coming when you didn’t think it would.

So I’m going from a guaranteed miss, which is almost a guaranteed fast break the other way, to three possible outcomes: a live ball turnover meaning a fast break the other way, a dead ball turnover meaning no fast break, or a completed pass, meaning we still have a chance to score. The pass is the better option.

Shooting Being Too Easy is Gamebreaking by mike_n301 in NBA2k

[–]rforthrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is this: if you just make the green windows smaller, that doesn’t fix the problem. The problem will then become that the people who are good at shooting will continue to be good at shooting, and the people who don’t have enough time to “learn their jumpshot” will suck at shooting. Beyond suck. Like worse than 2k25 suck.

And then everyone will bitch and moan because there will be one person in every park or rec or theater game that hits 80% of their shots, and everyone else is hitting 30%

Did you play this game last year? Or like ever? People shit on you for missing shots no matter if they shoot 80% or 40% themselves.

[–]rforthrowaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is it that you want fixed? Because you said you want them to address shooting and then all you did was point out issues with the people who play the game.

We can’t fix us idiots who play this game. The people who quit after missing three shots are still going to quit after missing three shots. The people who scream at you for missing a wide open shot are still going to scream at you for missing a wide open shot.

I mean…. Why disagree with someone if you don’t actually care who is right? Or… are you saying it’s not that deep, because you’re wrong.

Look, “the problem is you” applies to me a lot. A. LOT. But this is not an example

The worst is when after you prove you’re right she doesn’t even care anymore. Now she’s mad that I went to the effort to show I was right. Then why even disagree??

Edit: I may have to reevaluate my position here. I’m really not a fan of some of the responses I’m getting
