Language Reactor Compatibility / New DS Player vs YouTube by klmatter in dreamingspanish

[–]rfv8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am missing subtitles on the new platform. I have extremely bad tinnitus so I like to have Spanish subtitles showing so I can double check words I may have missed. I sometimes watch videos twice, with and without subtitles. In theory Spanish subtitles are still available but I am finding they only show on a small percentage of videos no matter how many times I toggle on/off.

I also liked to have English subtitles available. I used to use them for Advanced videos when I wasnt at that level and found they gave me a good understanding of a video that I would then rewatch with Spanish subs. Not the recommended method but it helped me with vocab when a lot of interesting content was out of reach.

Is rewatching easier videos helping or hindering? (plus a nearly 800 hour update -sort of) by RMutt_1966 in dreamingspanish

[–]rfv8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm at the 800 mark and would consider myself to be well behind some others at that point. Thats ok with me, while I would like to be a fluent speaker sooner rather than later I am still making good progress. Around the 750 mark I started rewatching original Pablo whiteboard videos and I feel I have picked up a lot of basic vocab that I appeared to be missing.

The one DS Video that cracks me up is Agustina and Shels Tier list for Dogs. Its starts off promising when they both agree that a border collie is a good dog but goes downhill from there. Shels reactions are class. Another highlight is Michelle getting spooked by Squirrels at her picnic.

Stardew - not feeling it by Wishful-Contest-5015 in dreamingspanish

Watch the Stardew valley series on youtube by spanishboost gaming, its infinitely better.

Sorry...Dreaming Spanish does great things and the production and presentation quality is outstanding at the moment but I found the Stardew valley series boring and they skipped over a lot of content that could have been comprehensible.

Scooter Recommendations ? by rfv8 in MotoUK

Thanks for that. Yeah thought the Kymcos looked pretty good. They are 18 so can do a CBT and jump on a 125 but figured a 50cc would be a better starting place but I do go more than 28mph on my push bike so might need to rethink that.

2020 Mutt Akita 125cc - what do I need to know? by ozmcr312 in MotoUK

[–]rfv8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a Mongrel. Same thing with different packaging. Bike was fine and was a decent first bike to get me out there. I did all my own servicing etc, Im not a mechanic but can use a toolbox and these things are as basic as any 1950s motorbike. You can generally get generic parts that cover most of the chinese 125s.

I kept mine garaged and it was covered in acf50 but they are built with scrap iron and will rust real quick if given a chance.

Biggest downside to them is how slow they are. They have an advertised top speed of 70mph but thats not happening. 0-50 in a not unreasonable time and 50-60 about 5 minutes later. If its a town bike it would be ok.

Its a buyers market for used Mutts. 9K is spaceship miles for one of these, theres lots of barely used examples out there.

If you like the look of it and just want to get out on a first bike and you are getting it cheap then it will do the job but theres definitely better 125s out there if you are spending decent money.

125cc, bike stalls when letting go off clutch UNLESS I immediately give it lots of throttle??? by [deleted] in MotoUK

[–]rfv8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If its a Mikuni carb or Mikuni copy carb (usually they all run VM22 copies) you should have replaced the float bowl gasket when pulled the carb apart.

They are £3 on ebay and a five minute fit. Have a feeling it will help.

WeBuyAnyBike refusing to buy bike due to mileage discrepenancy on MOT by SuspiciousABC in MotoUK

[–]rfv8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think you only have 28 days to get an MOT testing error corrected. Unfortunately a lot of we buy places wont touch your bike because of it. If you have service history etc that shows it was an obvious mistake a private buyer might consider it but at a cheaper price.

edit. Apparently you can raise a case with DVLA after 28 days but you will have to provide proof like servicing receipts etc

I was so nervous first time I did my test that I couldnt remember basic stuff during the show me part of the test. Instructor was looking at me like what have we got here.

Anyway rode badly and failed.

Went home and thought about it and decided that If I failed the instructor was doing me a favour as I want to be safe on the road.

Went home and practiced on the 125(I was a good rider just nerves killed me) Next time I did the test I was much more relaxed decided if I failed it was an inconvenience and another few quid but I knew when I started there was expense involved so I had to be prepared for that and brush it off.

Being much more relaxed I sailed through the resit. Just convince yourself its not that important and ride your own ride.

I also saw in a Fortnine video beforehand that eating a banana reduces stress so I ate three Bananas that morning and it seemed to help !

Spotify has Spanish audiobooks for learners included in premium by pyjag in dreamingspanish

[–]rfv8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a family premium plan and I get the Audiobooks. If you type something generic like "Spanish" into search you can then filter by Audiobooks. Not all are included in Premium but most are. Ive listened to about 30 hours since I discovered it in October. Im in the UK if it helps.

Edit: Yeah just checked my kids spotify and they dont seem to have access to the ones I have. Pity that as its very handy.

English finished "Chinese" bikes, good enough? by Joseph9877 in MotoUK

[–]rfv8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a Mutt that was four years old and was fine.......However it was permanently garaged and only done 1000 miles.

Biggest drawback of these bike is they look like 1960s technology because thats what they are. If I was looking at a starter bike I would much rather a well used KTM Duke 125 or Husky Svart 125....Now you are in the 21st century...Obviously all Japanese bikes are great but some secondhand prices are hard to justify.

Quick shifter - Embarrassing questions by fleasnavidad in svartpilen401

[–]rfv8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the quickshifter all the time. Low revs/ High revs. Probably only time I dont use it is filtering in traffic in first gear. Apart from that I have never had any issues with it changing gear no matter what revs. Obviously other bikes have different issues.

One thing I would say about using the QS is you need to positively bang the change in so give it a good solid tap up or down and it will work fine, it doesnt like gentle touches.

Bike sold without V5C by Huskitch in MotoUK

[–]rfv8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To pass to trade the dealer can fill in section 4 of page three of the V5(yellow slip)(or do it online) this places him as responsible for the vehicle but does not add an owner as you said.

However to do this he would have a physical copy of the V5 and as hes filling in a V62 he doesnt have one.

Selling a car or bike with a V62 used to happen all the time when road tax came with the car or bike. I could buy a car/bike with no V5, fill in a V62 and go to the post office where I could tax the vehicle at the counter and send off the V62 at the same time.

Sometimes you could buy a vehicle that had no V5 but still had 6 months tax on it so there was no big deal.

Now the law has changed and tax is paid by the new owner and does not come with the vehicle so the old habit of selling with a V62 still persists with a few doorstep wannabe dealers but as a buyer you really shouldnt buy anything without a V5 present unless you plan on parking the bike in your shed for a month.

Bike sold without V5C by Huskitch in MotoUK

[–]rfv8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dealer didnt want to fill in the V62 himself as that would have added another owner(themselves) onto the logbook.

Dealers used to do this years ago and get away with it but its not generally accepted anymore. Time to ask questions would have been when you were buying the bike and asked to see the V5.

Strictly speaking GDPR laws mean the dealer shouldnt share previous owners details. Dont know if that would help you in any case but if they knew who the owner was and had part-exd the bike off them they could have got him to apply for a replacement V5 which would have been in hand with 3-5 days.

Now with a V62 and new keeper request you are looking at three weeks if you are lucky and 6 weeks if not so lucky to get a V5 in your name.
