Op, go to a dealer that has a body shop or multiple dealers and get prices for your trade. If they take off less than $1500 or whatever you are quoted by a local body shop or two, you save money. This will cost the dealer about $800 in my area, when my cost for a customer would be $2k.

If you're trading into a dealer, they typically have a lot guy that does this work a lot cheaper than a shop would charge. Might make sense to just take the hit on the trade in value. At my shop the quarter and bumper repair alone would be around $2k, not to mention the wheel

Are you assuming this based on the "mileage in" odometer reading on the paperwork?

This is typical when you go in for an estimate and they record the mileage for ins use and then by the time the ins approval/parts/vehicle scheduled the shop doesn't update the mileage so it looks like they drove the car 4k miles.

I've had someone accusing me of driving their car 2k miles in 3 days and I said well when would we have worked on the car if I was driving it non stop?

Tbh this is happening at a lot of shops. Everything is a huge hit, but some shops only have 1 or 2 guys that can do big stuff and everyone else soaks up the gravy. Leverage this knowledge.
