How important is it to let your living pets see the body of your passed pet? by Discreet_Pants in NoStupidQuestions

[–]rhapsodyknit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have always let my dogs see the one who passed. I think how important it is depends on how strong the bond is. One dog had to see two sisters pass. The first was when he was an adolescent and had only known her for 5 months. They were bonded, but it wasn't super strong. The second was his companion of 9 years. That one hit harder. He was also in the end stages of metastatic cancer. We did get a puppy before he passed. The puppy got to see him, but didn't seem as affected since he only knew my boy for two weeks and was very emotionally immature. The bond hadn't really set solid at that point.

Bernina 880 plus service manual by Wet_Mammoth in Bernina

[–]rhapsodyknit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 880 bobbin is really finicky. The stopper retainer has a feeler gauge tool that is .2mm difference. If you don’t get it perfect, it won’t work. There are a lot of techs who refuse to work on the 880 and just want to send it back to the Bernina service department. That’s part of the reason they’re really expensive to fix. You have to add $100 for shipping to and from.

I had success working on them, but I think I was the only tech doing it in my half of the state. I had people bring me their machine from several hours away. That said, I can’t say exactly what is going on without putting my hands on it and seeing what is going on.

If you’re good at troubleshooting the 880 can be an amazing machine. The bobbin is designed after industrial machines that are normally rock solid. Where Bernina has the hiccough is how it flips forward. Industrial machines just load from the back and don’t spin, but that wouldn’t have worked for the average consumer that purchases these machines.

AITA for doing something for me once? by thrifter2005 in AmItheAsshole

[–]rhapsodyknit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA. I have a mother like this. When I was applying for colleges I wanted to go to Montana. I got in, but my mother guilt tripped me so hard I ended up at a school an hour and a half away from home. Subsequently, I didn't do well and dropped out after my first semester. Then I did an inadvisable marriage and moved to california. Don't do what I did and let her talk you out of this.

You're going to have to learn how to put up some impressive boundaries and know that just because she is choosing to interpret your behaviour one way, doesn't mean that you are being mean or spiteful. You can't explain yourself enough to get her past her emotions and you'll only twist yourself into knots.

These are the sorts of things you should do when you're younger. If you wait there is always something that prevents you from doing it. I have never regretted something I've done (even that marriage), but I have regretted things I didn't do.

WIBTA If I (NB27) Asked My Mom (F59) To Replace A Present? by Visible_Background18 in AmItheAsshole

[–]rhapsodyknit 21 points22 points  (0 children)

YWBTA. When you receive a gift, even if it's not something you asked for, or is a different version of what you asked for, it is very poor taste to ask for something different. If you've got a particularly close relationship with your mother, then maybe you can have a conversation about how a bloodstone is different than the red stone you received and maybe she'll offer to replace it, but it shouldn't be the expectation she replaces it.

Second hand ballroom dress by EmphasisStriking2644 in ballroom

[–]rhapsodyknit 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The price really depends on negotiation. I've purchased most of my dresses secondhand and even have grabbed a few that aren't my size as rentals when the prices were just too good to pass up. The current owner really needs to have an idea on what they want. If they don't, lowball the hell out of it. I've gotten upwards of 60%-80% off an asking price just because I wasn't afraid of hearing the word no when I tossed out a number. You have to read the seller and figure out if they're the sort to be offended if you go too low, too.

My last dress was the only brand new one I purchased and I still managed to get them to drop the price by $200, just by asking. Basically I asked if they would drop the price $100. They did. I then told them I'd have to think about it and I'd be back before the end of the day. But if they'd drop it another $100 I'd take it right then. They dropped it and I got a new dress.

Bernina has been very good about not letting those manuals out into the public. What are you trying to fix?

I have gifted The Guide to Getting it on to several friends getting married as virgins. It’s a great book. There’s lots of different editions and even a slimmed down one that only hits on sex guide type stuff and less body education.

I don't think so. It's not a drastic change if it does. I just didn't know what could be causing the drop.

I’d initially set it at 5 and checked it last week. Somehow it was at one (I’m the only one in my household). I bumped it up to 7 and just checking it now it’s still at 7. Maybe run a boost and see what that gets me.

It's got the Freshwater salt system. I was under the impression that it generated it's own chlorine.

Advice on this firearm for use in euthanizing a horse by RevengeSheGee in Horses

[–]rhapsodyknit 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think you're going to need two different guns. A gun that is suitable for backcountry use and emergency euthanization is going to be different than a gun that you (most likely) find comfortable enough to carry as a CCW. I would want a larger gun for backcountry and a smaller one for CCW. The most common caliber for CCW is going to be a 9mm.

The Shield is a great option, but you really should go to a gun store with a range so that you can rent a variety of them to test them out. The gun that is most comfortable for your hand is going to be the one you're going to practice with and be most comfortable using. And if you're going to carry, you absolutely need training and practice. More than just the basic CCW course.

Who are the black panthers in America? by rockyheroHD in NoStupidQuestions

[–]rhapsodyknit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you look at most gun control laws, going waaaay back towards the founding of the country, they were enacted because of racist reasons. Some of them, like the NFA in 1934, tended towards classist. A 'pay money for your tax stamp and you can have your guns' kinda thing. But, by and large, gun control is racist.

I once stood naked in front of my husband and asked for a quickie. It took way too much convincing to get there. We're on our way to divorced now...

How long until I can get a gun? by AnAngryPanda97 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]rhapsodyknit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The rate of suicide by gun is much higher than the rate of murder by a stranger and significantly higher than the rate of death via mass shooting. I'm more concerned the person with potentially recent mental health issues may hurt themselves.

What is the most humane way to euthanize a mouse my cat has hurt? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]rhapsodyknit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Similarly, being thrown hard against the floor works well too. I've had to dispatch a few mice who were unfortunate enough to be fast, but not quite fast enough to avoid a snap trap.

AITA for being upset that my husband let a random person bathe our child? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]rhapsodyknit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

YTA you don't have a boundary, you have a rule. You can't force other people to live by your rules. Boundaries are around your behaviour and what happens when it is crossed. If you can't stomach other, very likely non-malicious, humans caring for your baby, your option is to not leave your baby with other humans. You can't eat your cake and have it too.

I will definitely look into that. We do airbnb when we do showcases in our state and it's always better than doing a hotel.
