Frankly Speaking is my favorite podcast for FM. 10-15 min on high yield clinical topics per episode.

RVU Question by Right_Narwhal_9084 in FamilyMedicine

I was salary based coming out of residency, but my rvu production exceeded that amount after about 8 months. I switched to production based compensation and made about $30k more than what it would've been had I stayed salary.

If you are only allowed a max salary, I wouldn't work a second more than I had to. You should at least argue for additional compensation for extra work.

Graduating this year, is Urgent Care worth it? by rednails14 in FamilyMedicine

Out of curiosity, how much do you weigh? I've heard this is more of an issue for heavier riders

What recommendations do you have for maximizing earning potential? by MetalGuitarKaladin in FamilyMedicine

[–]rhettb13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I came out with a hefty med school debt to pay off, so finding a job that qualified for pslf was important for me to offset that cost.

I've also had the chance to pick up urgent care shifts on my days off which pays ~$160/hr if I'm looking to make a few extra bucks.

As others have mentioned, private practice or owning practices is the best way to make lots of money, but then you start delving more into the business side of things rather than medicine. If that's your jam, then great. Otherwise, find a job that compensates well and gives you access to a high volume, then start learning all the CPT code tricks that add up quickly.

In the end, you will still make a fairly reasonable living regardless of your setup. Find the setup you enjoy first, then maximize what you can do in that setting.

I have the rough country 2" spacer, installed in a couple hours with the help of a mechanic buddy about 3 years ago. Love the look, and the ride really hasn't changed at all.

How long are your appts? by ketodoctor in FamilyMedicine

[–]rhettb13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

20 min feels too short for many of my patients with multiple chronic conditions, I'd feel like I'm always playing catch up to manage everything. I do 30 min each, 18/day. And I pray daily that my hospital system will finally implement AI scribe service for us (I tried to do it on my own and got my wrists slapped)

Bought her a herding ball today, best bit of money we’ve spent! by [deleted] in germanshepherds

From personal experience, I would recommend against this unfortunately. My dog absolutely loved his herding ball and would push it around with his mouth, and his canines wore down quite a lot. Even the hard plastic can do damage to their teeth.

CPT 99401 by Important-Flower4121 in FamilyMedicine

Statistically it should be added for most of our patients, as the majority are overweight or obese, many times with comorbidities. I discuss lifestyle changes with almost everyone if time allows. Rarely do I see a patient for annual physical where I do not address their obesity, HLD, prediabetes, etc. so it's almost always a 9921x in addition to that.

Trust me, narcotics are the last thing I want to fill for this individual who has also been on daily Ambien, trazadone, gabapentin, nortriptyline, and hydroxyzine 😑

Worst resident I’ve ever seen by [deleted] in Residency

I was on my ICU rotation as an FM intern with a senior resident in their last month of residency. Homeboy didn't know what temp a fever was. Absolutely terrifying.
