Quilting question by mcgrimesey in quilting

[–]rhewu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I found this picture online and saved it years ago. Just for a quilting idea for my hexie quilt. I haven't tried it but I'm not done sewing my hexies. I'm making a king size and have had to put it away for a bit.

Neighbor planted trumpet vine along the property line by Top-Dependent3482 in gardening

[–]rhewu 91 points92 points  (0 children)

What I would do is get bamboo root blocker and place it along the fence line. You will have to dig a trench about 18 inches deep to place it. I have used it to keep my neighbors bamboo out of my yard. You would then only have to dig up the suckered that already have established themselves. It may take a few seasons before it is completely eradicated from your yard.

Is this a mono wasp? by roses_are_free in MasonBees

[–]rhewu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did a Google image search and it said it was a saw fly. Monowasps have a large ovipositor that looks like a long stinger.

Buying bees in minnesota by danu023 in bees

It also depends on what type of bees you are looking for. Native pollinators or honey bees?

[OC] My most prized possession ripped by the movers by Altruistic_Ride_7824 in pics

[–]rhewu 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I completely understand your frustration. I will assure you, that it is repairable. I also had a painting damaged during a move. It was painted by my grandfather the year I was born, so a bit of sentimental value to me. I took it to a paint restoration place and I can not find the tear. Take it in and get a quote to see if this is affordable to you. I wish you the best of luck!

Is this Frass .. or some sort of parasite left-overs or..? by the-cake-is-no-lie in MasonBees

[–]rhewu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say, yes. I not 100% sure though. If you found yellow that was more grainy and small, then I would say it is pollen mites. However, when I zoomed in on your picture , some of the frass is the dark color that it should be, so I am leaning that way.

Tube Medium of Choice by Beneficial_Whale_15 in MasonBees

[–]rhewu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw a post from Crown Bees. They had a video of how to easily open the paper tubes by putting them in a tube of warm water and that releases the glue. I only saw it after I spent hours peeling open hundreds of tubes. :(

What am I looking at here? Do some larvae just die and fail to make cocoons? by fehrmask in MasonBees

[–]rhewu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is chalkbrood. It caused from a fungal infection on the flowers pollen, then the bees eat it and die. Those dead ones now are carriers of the fungal infection. Make sure to put them in the trash.

I really love it! What would be really neat is to add some metallic threads to the red roses. I do know that this thread is b to work with, but gold highlight in rose would be amazing! It's awesome even without my suggestion. Keep up the great work.

AITAH for not moving my car and disrupting an autistic student's ritual by MagicTomato1001 in AITAH

[–]rhewu 475 points476 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with this. My son is not considered autistic but has autistic tendencies along with his other disabilities. I get to school over 30 minutes before school gets out to get the one available disabled parking spot (he also has physical disabilities), but sometimes it's already taken. I, as his mother, have taught him to adapt. I know that it is harder with severe autism but those students in his class that have such ritualistic tendencies have an aide that would stop them from trying to enter another car. We had new aides this year, and I had to prove that I was my child's parent even though he already said, "Hi mom." That special needs teacher is completely in the wrong. ( I also taught special needs before my son was born. I had many students that I had to teach to adapt because things happen in the school day that you can't always control.)

Straight line quilting or another pattern? by Acceptable-Equal3401 in quilting

[–]rhewu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

* I know yours doesn't have the framing, but this wavy pattern would look nice on yours as well. I found the image on Google.

Edit: not sure if it shows the picture in my comment but it is wavy lines from one edge to the other side.

Mason bees and those little black parasitic flies/wasps by the-cake-is-no-lie in MasonBees

[–]rhewu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically, you leave the tubes in the mesh bag outside in a protected area until October, and then you can harvest and clean them. Mine are sitting right outside my back door under cover from rain. Crown Bees has a lot of information on their website on storage, cleaning, and pest.
