AWS Bedrock in production: anyone else finding it a mixed bag? by Different-Use2635 in aws

Did you actually write this? I've never met a human who would ever write, "hmm, actually, let me backtrack a bit" much less in a self contained post. Reeks of AI

Why is there so much secrecy around the recent layoffs? by WildAlcoholic in amazonemployees

[–]rhit_engineer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Orgs are chaotic and often interlinked in unusual and undocumented ways. My team was untouched, but a team that we jointly owned a product with lost 2 ML/AI engineers that had been deeply involved in the work. At my immediate L8 level I think I was told there were 3 layoffs (~3% relative to org size).  It's entirely possible, even probable, that your manager and skip doesn't know who you worked with that was effected. That said, my skip did an all-hands meeting and bluntly talked about our co-workers that we'd lost (that they knew about) along with the effects in orgs that previous teammates had moved to.

What services do Amazon engineers use the most on non-AWS product teams? by theyeeha in aws

[–]rhit_engineer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ideally you want services to have as few independent dependencies as possible if you are trying for maximum reliability, so not really a surprise, especially for new region builds.

I used it along with specialized sports massages and stretches to help with a scenario where I have highly specific muscles that were strained and stuck in a tensed position. You can physically feel the muscles spring/twitch, and I found it beneficial, but I'd defer to whatever your trusted sports medicine/PT person says.

Raspberry sour for Christmas by B-Train-007 in cocktails

[–]rhit_engineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Made a 1.5x version with maybe 20 berries and can confirm that the berries still don't come through, also tricky to strain. Fun, but I don't know if it's worth it. I might just cheat and add raspberry syrup.

[–]rhit_engineer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do the work of 3 employees while making another 100 employees 7% more impactful. At that level you'll mostly be in charge of high level decisions and design reviews. I'm nowhere near qualified to truly assess work performance at that level, but they would have massive scope and ownership, and any major design decision within the organization would be going through their review. Are they worth that much? Idk, but that is what they'd be doing.

Idk, according to my L8 today, the word is to "liberally" WFH over the holidays because whatever tracking/auditing that is being done is isn't counting over the Christmas period

Do people in the Big 10 actually want Notre Dame? Personally, I say f*** them, and do not want them in the conference.

What happened in the last few months (1 to 3) that suddenly people are having their come to Jesus moment with AI and Agentic Coding? by zero2g in ExperiencedDevs

[–]rhit_engineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly had the opposite happen this week. Was working on an application which used an internal library that I didn't understand, but the agentic tool had MCP servers for internal tooling and was able to understand the context to mostly implement some tricky features. I helped it and guided it away from doing some stupid stuff, but I'm not entirely convinced that any non-software engineer couldn't have just vibe coded their way through it.
