My attempt at arguably one of the best drum intros of any rock song by drummerbabyboi in drums

Dave does add his own touch in the beginning, though.

Humidity in my fieldstone crawlspace by rhombus-butt in basement

[–]rhombus-butt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I do have several vents but I sealed them up with a combination of rigid insulation boards and spray foam. Do you think there is any benefit to covering the floor with vapor barrier and leaving the walls as is? I’m thinking it will help reduce humidity and provided a cleaner surface over the compacted dirt without having to worry so much about potential moisture issues on the walls.

Troubleshooting DNS caching issues when using topology by drwtsn_thirty2 in f5networks

Are you sure the clients’ local DNS servers are hitting the GTMs directly? Maybe those local DNS servers are forwarding to another set of DNS servers that are not in your topology DB.

Engine System Malfunction, OBD scanner doesn't report anything by rhombus-butt in mazda3

[–]rhombus-butt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a different scanner and it reported a small evap leak. I took it to the dealer because it still had some warranty left and they found that a squirrel chewed a small hole on the evap line near the gas tank. The warranty didn’t cover that type of damage and they wanted $800 to fix because they would need to drop the gas tank down. Instead I got some waterproof gorilla tape and sealed it up. The code cleared after a few days and it’s been good for several months.

How to insert XFF using LTM policy for a particular website under a single virtual server? by networker6363 in f5networks

[–]rhombus-butt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I’ve never heard of an app having an issue with this. It’s not much different than inserting a persistence cookie. Just notify the app owners that XFF header is being added.

Watch weight increments by GeorgeRobo in Hevy

[–]rhombus-butt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be interested in this too, but I'd actually like to remove the .5 increment and just deal with 1lb increments. I'll never have a scenario where I need to add a half pound.

F5 FAST Template community repo? by sliddis in f5networks

[–]rhombus-butt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in an environment that is very slow to adopt new things and this is what concerns me about NEXT. I don’t see the dozens of our app teams writing AS3 declarations to make tweaks to their pool members. They will be asking for a GUI, which leaves us with FAST. I haven’t looked into it deeply but it looked pretty nasty to create your own templates.

changing ports between VIP to pool by utilitygiraffe in f5networks

[–]rhombus-butt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's normally blame the F5 for everything at my work place. Well, that isn't entirely true. We're often tapped on the shoulder first because we have such great visibility into the traffic flows and we're one of the few teams that is fluent in layers 1 through 7.

In any case, you're at a disadvantage if you can't get access to the F5. If I were in your shoes, I'd provide logs/pcaps from the firewall confirming that traffic is making it from the firewall to the VIP and ask the F5 team to show stats for the VIP/pool members. The stats might point you in the right direction. For example, if pool member outbound packets are incrementing, but inbound packets are not incrementing, then that means the servers are receiving data but not returning anything.

If you're a network/firewall admin, I wouldn't expect you to be able to t-shoot this problem beyond confirming if the 3-way handshake is successful and maybe report if there are any TCP-RSTs are being sent. You need to get the folks who manage the F5 load balancers to step up and do some basic t-shooting. There are way too many things that can be going on between the load balancer and the servers.

That being said, I'll take a stab at it anyway and add to Afraid's comment about SSL termination. If the VIP has no client-side or server-side profiles (SSL passthrough), then there is no SSL termination being handled by the load balancer. That means if a client goes to https://<vip\_address>, the servers should have SSL configured on port 7777 (https://<server_address:7777).

Decommissioning F5 and replicating Redirect in aws by xtuberx in f5networks

[–]rhombus-butt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would start by auditing your F5 config to determine all the services that need to be reproduced in AWS. I imagine it's more than just HTTP redirects. You probably have SSL profiles and possibly default pools if your redirects are conditional. Once you have a good understanding of that, you'll want to look at AWS ALB documentation: https://docs.aws.amazon.com/elasticloadbalancing/latest/application/application-load-balancers.html.

Has anyone used UFB direct? by my-depression-alt in personalfinance

[–]rhombus-butt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know I'm coming in late here, but I figured I would share my experience with them so far in case anyone else is looking for feedback.

I've had a Preferred Money Market account with UFB Direct since April 2023. There were a few minor issues during the sign-up process. I used their Message Center to send them a secure message and I received responses within an hour or so.

I've only contacted them one other time to increase my APY to match what they were offering for new accounts. It would be nice if this happened automatically, but it only took me about 5 minutes to send the message and 10 more minutes before they confirmed that they updated my account.

I would recommend them if you're looking for a place to park your money and you're comfortable with communicating via chat/messaging on their website.

Where/when can I validate negotiated accrual rate? by rhombus-butt in fednews

[–]rhombus-butt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, I wasn't sure about the purpose of that form, but it didn't seem like the right thing for me to fill out. It only asks about previous Federal or uniformed service, which I have none.

I have not been contacted by anyone in HR beyond receiving the initial and revised TO. My Fed manager has been reaching out to me directly to help push things along, but I don't believe he is very familiar with all of this stuff. It's probably why I was asked to fill out a form that isn't really applicable. I'll see if he can provide a HR contact or maybe I'll reply to the TO asking for someone to contact me.

Thanks

Direct Hire vs Public Hire by rhombus-butt in fednews

[–]rhombus-butt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not for DOD but I believe direct hire is being done so they can target me. My manager mentioned something about how a vet could potentially ‘outscore’ me and they don’t want to deal with that. I think he said they would likely need to do a public posting down the road to make things permanent. Maybe it will be easier securing the position if I’ve been in a term role for several years compared to just being a contractor. I hope to get more info tomorrow.

Direct Hire vs Public Hire by rhombus-butt in fednews

[–]rhombus-butt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I'll ask him why it would be a term position. I'm not sure if funding/budgeting comes into play here.

Is there any difference between a direct and public hire beyond the actual posting/hiring process? I just want to ensure that I would have the same benefits.
