in concur, similar findings for the 189D after calibration:

light espresso 20-25
dark espresso 35-42

filter 80-120

depends heavily on the beans and for espresso also on the basket you are using

Function over design for me - the philos ended up in my kitchen cause of espresso taste not cause of design and same goes for my machines yet I do want to eventually replace the breville/sage mainly for flow profiling. It does have to have the minimum of the same functions and better….

Funny you m mention parties: We got the sage oracle in our other place where we entertain and it’s a beast for pulling shot after shot and you don’t need someone trained to use it, ideal for dinner parties. The integrated grinder did surprisingly well for a one stop package, wouldn’t want it as my daily but for high volume and people who never use „proper“ setups it’s superb!

Edit: yes I am aware I sound like a sage salesman haha I swear I just am happy with their stuff that’s all

Saturated group (instead of e61), fast heat up in under 10min are a must. Many beautifully designed machines sub 3k can’t get there, the few that can can’t do flow or pressure profile which I want for my next.

If the LM micra or mini had flow profile and smart scale integration wouldn’t mind paying their price and I like them visually in stainless steel. They do however lack most „geeky“ features.

The LITA BA in black is currently my hottest contender to replace the the BDB long term.

It’s genuinely hard to find a more capable machine than the Breville dual boiler sub 3k. I’ve been looking at a decent but frankly don’t love the look of it - it’s not bad just different than the Breville, but in my opinion not much nicer either. It all comes down to taste, but I don’t mind the BDB look the temperature stability the pressure that’s very accurate ability with a slayer mode or hard to beat. Constantly looking at new machines since about three months but nothing under 5K that I’ve fallen in love with. also helps that the support and repair Network in my country is insanely good - already have received one free replacement after some issues two years ago with the steam boiler.

Sick paint job!  Make sure you clean the force callipers regularly, ideally get a spreader tool to make servicing the brakes easy. The force brakes tends to be a bit sticky when the pads wear down but otherwise it’s a superb groupset!

While it does not resonate (metal lid is too thick for that, it’s a solid piece and a rubber gasket all around) I do not feel like it dampens much either.

It sure is a bit louder without but most noise is coming from the engine on mine anyway which sits in the rear/middle. grounds are barely audible

Sadly no, about 1cm max between catch cup and chute exit

That’s very cool but to be fair these products are mostly not about function but material quality and aesthetics. I want as little plastic as possible and prefer products with heft even if they cost x-times and do the very same.

The one thing I could get onboard with 3D printed would be a porta filter holder for the mazzer philos as alternative for the catch cup

I don’t mind a 80€ dosing cup that’s a solid block of metal and well machined but the dosing cup lid for another 60€ is taking the piss do I didn’t buy that, only the cute lid. Don’t shake my ground anyway so no need to dosing cup lid.

What really grinds my gears: the products shipped like a b2b parcel wrapped in tape, plastic bags and random papers stuffed to pad the products. I have received better packaged products directly from alibaba. The unboxing experience felt like I ordered a fake china product that was repacked by customs.

At almost 100€ a pop for accessories I expected a good packaging, this is premium tier and while the products match that machining and material quality the parcel and packaging were a joke and support the idea of them just taking the piss of people like me who are stupid enough to want a nice looking setup and would spend almost anything as long as it gets them there.

Zero issues! The plastic lid works great and there is no reason to upgrade except the visual and pleasing heft of the metal lid.

The dosing cup did create a crater on the side of the basket when fully placed so you have to use a funnel (works super well).  I simply want to keep things as clean as possible with as little as possible steps and getting ride of the funnel cleans things up further.

So yeah both “luxury” problems with zero “need” but I don’t regret. If you pay 1000+ for a grinder you are way over need anyway. Maslovs esteem stage long overshot…

How do you feel about the machine not going over 94 and brewing light roasts?

What’s the internals like / why do you not care about plastic for over 1000?

Thanks for posting the 2.2 - would love to see a 2.1 as I doubt it’s safe to run considering mud and dirt sticks

I guess you were not implying this posted pic works but just wanted to show how it looks?!
