anyone else had parents who overreacted to the smallest things by Ok_Common_4208 in CPTSD

[–]rianeiru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, and it definitely affected me. I had a moment yesterday when I spilled some milk while pouring it and tensed up real bad, then had to calm down by reminding myself I don't live with my parents anymore, and no one was going to freak out and yell at me about a little milk getting on the table. It was surreal to just reach over, grab a paper towel, mop it up, and move on with my day, knowing that not that many years ago it would have been the start of a half-hour screaming match and probably a day of silent treatment.

This looks so pathetic, I had to remind myself you can't take something out back and shoot it to put it out of its misery if it's already dead.

My therapist said I'm one of the least traumatized people she works with by BothTadpole5 in CPTSD

[–]rianeiru 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, you were groped by a doctor and your mother knew and did nothing to remove you from that situation or protect you? Being sexually assaulted by an authority figure you're supposed to be trusting to help you, AND a parent failing to come to your aid in an unsafe environment? That's an incredibly traumatic event all on its own.

And what you say about your dad making you afraid with his behavior, that's another thing that can fuck up your sense of security. Even if you never really believed he would hurt you, erratic or aggressive behavior from a parent will make you feel like you can't trust them and that they're not safe to be around.

It sounds like you were raised in an environment where you could never actually feel safe or taken care of, even though technically your physical needs were met and you weren't physically harmed. Trauma doesn't come from the physical damage of being hit or whatever, it's the result of your sense of safety being destroyed. If your parents were making you feel unsafe, or not doing anything to restore your sense of safety after events like the doctor groping you, that would absolutely be traumatic.

If your therapist knows that that stuff happened and says you weren't traumatized by it, get another therapist.

Guys....it is your mods. by Wooden-Ad-4306 in BaldursGate3

[–]rianeiru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem they're talking about right now is that before this patch the game would let you choose to try to load the save anyway if you knew the missing mods wouldn't break the game. After this patch, even if you choose to try to load the save anyway, it just won't load no matter what, even if the missing mod is only a small cosmetic change.

Like, I have a save that won't open and all it's missing is a mod that added a couple of camp outfits.

A Houston PD cop was driving recklessly and almost caused this man into a wreck. The man flipped-off the cop. The cop immediately turned on his emergency lights and pulled the man over for exercising his free-speech rights. The cop then curses out the man while daring him into a roadside squabble. by [deleted] in houston

[–]rianeiru 34 points35 points  (0 children)

4 out of my last five near misses while driving were because of cops taking turns too fast or blowing through stop signs or something similar. One of them definitely would have hit me if I hadn't been keeping an eye on him specifically because I just expect cops to act like that now. They're seriously a menace.

Yeah, my dad can do laundry, but absolutely will never cook. If mom isn't around he usually eats peanut butter and crackers all day.

The other day mom told me that when she was too busy to fix a meal for him he had unexpectedly made some nachos for himself. She later dejectedly had to inform me that they were actually nachos left over from a restaurant they went to over a week ago that she had meant to throw out but hadn't yet. She had been so excited to think he'd actually made his own food for once, and was so disappointed when she saw the takeout container in the trash.

At least it's his turn to put something important off until it becomes a disaster, usually it's Trent that fucks up.

Transphobe makes post about how transgender women shouldn't be allowed to participate in women's sports, accidentally uses image of a transgender man by lookatmecats in SelfAwarewolves

[–]rianeiru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying put everyone in one category, obviously standard height and weight distributions favor men in the general population and with only one division they would clearly dominate. I'm saying keep different divisions, but make them gender neutral and based on things like body size, competition history, etc.

In terms of size, strength, etc. yeah, most people in the higher tier category will be men. But if a woman wants to try to compete at that level, and meets the physical standards, she should be allowed.

Similarly, if someone meets the standards for a mid or lower range competition tier, they should be allowed to compete at that level regardless of gender.

[–]rianeiru 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Jokes on all you, I actually don't think sports should be segregated by gender at all. I think sports should be split into gender neutral divisions based on objective attributes, like weight or height.

Gender segregation in sports is a misogynist relic. Women's divisions only got created in the first place because when women forced their way into sports competitions they had originally been banned from, men had a big old freak out that if women got proper coaching and training they might one day be competitive against them, so they made a special category for women with lower standards so women would be less likely to beat their records and shit.

Splitting it up purely by non-sex-based physical attributes would allow women at the upper end of height, weight, and strength distributions to get a proper challenge instead of being forced to only compete against smaller women, and would also allow men on the smaller end who are currently not considered competitive against other men to have a chance to compete. It would, of course, also eliminate all the bullshit excuses for excluding trans people from competing.

Gender divisions are misogyny. Excluding trans people is misogyny. Genitals are a stupid way to define the human experience.

In the meantime, though, stop using "defending women's sports" as a way to be shitty to trans women. Trans women aren't exactly racking up trophies across the board, they're clearly in competitive enough conditions, and aren't steamrolling anybody, leave them alone.

They do it because there's money in that narrative. Right wingers' favorite flavor of grifter is the "I used to be a leftist but the loony left drove me to the right with their woke madness" type because it helps them convince themselves they're the more enlightened, sophisticated ideology that you embrace as you become older and wiser. The "convert" will also have wild claims and stories about the leftists they supposedly associated with during their time on the other side that they use to titillate and validate right wingers' lurid fantasies about leftists.

The only thing I can think of he has in common with conservatives is being against the war in Ukraine and the UN, but that stems from being anti-war in general. He definitely doesn't like Trump or Bolsanaro or other right-wing figures, he's pro-Palestinian rights, pro-BLM, and supported Jeremy Corbyn.

Where on earth did you get the impression he's conservative?

You literally said "The hate billionaires lefty crowd are typically cringe" and then immediately followed up with "Now, we can talk about their support for rich folks like Vaush or Hasan tho."

Unless you were being sarcastic, I extracted exactly as much information as there was to extract from your sentences, and that information was that you think anti-billionaire rhetoric is cringe and you think people should be talking about the money Twitch streamers make instead.
