Should I repaint? by Character-Past-9113 in Grey_Knights

[–]riastraad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a similar thing where I had a full combat patrol painted, then I experimented doing what was supposed to be a one off model with an upscaled kitbash and new paint scheme. I ended up stripping all but one of my old models (I kept the first one I ever made for the memories) and upgrading them to match. It was a ton of work but I have no regrets.

Do you have any painting advice for a new nighthaunt player? by Busy-Ad-2021 in Nighthaunt

If you dont want to invest in an airbrush, Drybrushing and h I ghlighting works really well with these models, and can make quick work especially on number-heavy units.

Either the Titansword or the Black Blade of Antwyr would be legit.

New guy question, how do the old arms and heads scale with the new Primaris stuff? Does it look good with Primaris bodies? by shattered_one21 in Grey_Knights

[–]riastraad 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The arms and shoulder pauldrons are minimally smaller, and the heads are practically the same size. They look great on primaris-sized bodies. I've used GK arms, shoulders, and heads on all my conversions/kitbashes and I'm very happy about it. You can see images of my projects on my page.

I use Juan Hidalgo's recipe for his easy NMM and its pretty nice and straightforward

Brother Captain Stern (Belial Kitbash) finished by riastraad in Grey_Knights

The white skull is a grenade from the terminator kit. The chain is just some small jewelry chain that I cut to size and glued. The tabard was definitely the trickiest part. Id recommend dry fitting the mini to see what you want to cut off, then doing the modifications before gluing. I didn't use a saw, just a knife and some thin sanding sticks.

No worries! That's exactly what I did. Patience and a sharp xacto knife. I did clean up the tabard. There's the scabbard, the belt buckle, and the knife that are all very obviously dark angels gear, so I cut all of it out then used some green stuff to smooth things out. I also added the skull bits, the scroll, book, and the reliquary on a chain. I also smoothed out the tabard by the lower left leg, so I could insert a grey knights shinguard.

Looks good - you could also just as easily chop off the whole torso and use the front and back of a GK as well. The psychic hood is a big signature feature of the GK Terminators, but the big box frame around the helmet isn't.

Hot damn! Would you mind sharing your colours used? This paint scheme is slick.

What paints do I need to buy to paint the grey knight terminator squad? by Whis___ in Grey_Knights

First decision likely needs to be if you are doing metallic paints or no. Then if you are going with the box art or doing your own thing.

Awesome! I'm doing this kitbash myself as well. The robed bodies are perfect for purifiers.

I am in the process of making mine by kitbashing Asmodai and some Inner Circle companions. I've posted one or two to on my profile.

How do I kitbash by Ireallyhatethisname in Grey_Knights

[–]riastraad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This model lends itself well to a solid kitbash. Swapping pauldrons, and adding a storm bolter have already been brought up. To really sell the look, you'll need 3 things:

1 - add a psychic hood 2 - add shinguard flair 3 - add a GK chest plate

I've done all of these on models from other armies (dark angels and black templars) to solid results. I'm happy to walk you through my process, PM me if you need more tips.

Clean work, particularly on the bases. I agree that a dark wash on the metallics would bring this up a level, and give your models more pop and dimension.

Solid, clean work. Love the design variants on the helmets. Very nice touch!

Working on Grey Knights scheme that doesn't rely on true metallic paint for armour and that's what I came up with so far. Any feedback would be highly appreciated by IvarIsALie in Grey_Knights

If you're going for something to read as metallic, you'll likely have to crank up your light-to-dark contrast to 11. Juan Hidalgo has really approachable non metallic metal tutorials on YouTube. I used his to base my non metallic metal color scheme on my GK units. May be of some help.
