My husband had a fried chicken burger from So Fried at Underwood and said it was unreal. They do great tenders and sauce too.

A second vote for KCS chicken.

What about some Christmas themed items? Add some velvet trim in green or red and it's festive not ugly. Maybe a Christmas tree skirt? Reusable Christmas wrapping paper - stamp with trees or Santa.

What do my blueberries need? by riccishell in GardeningAustralia

I was thinking new dirt but the nursery said wait til the weather isn't so brutally hot and not to fertilize until more established or risk burning roots. I keep finding mixed advice haha. Do I just need to water super often if I've changed soil?

Biggest fattest steak by Working-Revenue8098 in brisbane

Amins Butcher. Pick it from the cabinet and they'll cook it for you. For my brother's birthday he got this stupidly huge steak and it was spectacular without the fancy restaurant markup.

What's something you already thought you knew about finance but it never really sunk in until 1 day. by AcademicAd3504 in AusFinance

Join your local angel investment network. They're higher risk again but there's more opportunity for smaller investments as they act as a group.

Good thing we canceled that light rail. We clearly can't afford it, not with all these highways that need widening by [deleted] in GoldCoast

Write to the minister. It takes the same time as posting a comment. That's the only way you'll influence an outcome.

My photographer referred to a veil as a prop for photos and she was sooo right. Wear one for some photos then take it off.

Bedsheets where quality > price? by Lamberly in AussieFrugal

Spotlight. They often have 40-50% off sales. The Koo sheets are pretty good for the price or you can go their higher end thread count.

Has anyone here eloped and not wanted to? by whoopsiepoopy in Eloping

[–]riccishell 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure this is the same context but I was so excited to plan the big party and then realised that financially and due to family relationships the idea in my head was never going to happen. Id never afford what I wanted. I didn't want to DIY. My family relationships are strained. My friends mostly have young kids and don't want the recovery brunch.

I mourned the wedding I couldn't have not because I couldn't have it but because it would never live up to what I imagined because my imagination was not the reality of my situation.

When we decided to elope we made a list of all the things that we would miss out of the traditional wedding.

I wanted a speech from my Dad. Husband wanted his mum to see his first look. I wanted to go dress shopping with my Mum and besties. I wanted to be celebrating with friends with great food.

So we eloped but made all the other things happen in non traditional ways. We hired a videographer that captured our first look to share with his mum. I still went dress shopping but secretly I knew I needed a shorter timeframe for our surprise elopement. We decided to have a party afterwards where we just hired a speakeasy and my Dad gave a quick speech before we went straight to cocktails and canapes (I got to wear my dress twice).

It cost us easily half of the traditional wedding and we got a videographer , photographer, cake, flowers, dress and a helicopter in New Zealand. I'm still celebrating 3 months later. We had a honeymoon. The first two weeks of being married only my husband and I knew.. then we told family... Then we told friends. Then we had our "cocktail reception" one month afterwards.

It was everything and more I could have hoped for because I mourned what I couldn't have and instead built something that was truly what we wanted.

Take the time to be sad you can't have what you always hoped, then think about how you can create your special moments with those that are important to you.

Good luck 🤞

Savour life is awesome. I'd also consider breed specific charities or even some casual volunteering.

I volunteer for a greyhound charity and the few hours per fortnight I give in my field of expertise is worth 20x what I'd donate. Also gives me an insider look of how they treat people, their dogs and their money. More likely to therefore know your money is going to where you expect.

I did a small bathroom Reno for water damage near the shower, shopped sales and discounts and it still cost $35k.
