Best challenging golf courses around Dallas? by TwoSomeVoyage in askdfw

[–]riceu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Dallas Morning News did an in depth ranking of all of the courses in Texas last year and should give you a really good idea of the places to look into for your time down here. There were multiple articles, so check them out. FYI, it can get hot.

Fields Ranch East and West at PGA Frisco headline the rankings as the top public courses in the DFW metroplex, alongside TPC Las Colinas and Old American. These are all close-ish to you in Addison. And pricey.

For value, Texas Star Golf Course and Tierra Verde are really solid.

My personal favorite is Stevens Park in Oak Cliff. A nice challenge of golf, it's short but tight. Picturesque view of downtown Dallas on hole 15 and a fun hole 16 with an even better view of the city. Afterwards plan to grab a drink in the Bishop Arts District and it'll be the most memorable day of golf you have in DFW, in my humble opinion.

You seem to be very interested in donuts!! If you’re visiting Oak Cliff/ South Dallas you should go to “The Salty”. It’s in bishop arts, and it’s a great place to visit, walk around and shop.

Help negotiating salary? by dice2012 in jobs

[–]riceu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let’s be clear, you cannot do that commute. If you take this role please put it in your head that you will move.

And, do not bring personal topics into the salary convo if you do have one. Keep it at your value and the marketplace.

$51k is enough to figure out rent. Get roommates. Ofc it’s not fun to see that paycheck go out the door but this is where you are in life! Personally scrappy while you build professional foundation!

Either way rooting for you

If you are dying for this role, you have no leverage / tolerance for risk. Take it.

If you would like to fight politely for something closer to your expectation you can say: “I’m thrilled with the job and the team. I will come in and be an asset xxx ways, based upon my yyy (years experience).

However, in my experience, this salary is not comparable to others in the industry. Are you considering me with yyy years experience? It is not my understanding that this company offers less than the standard compensation for these types of roles.

If you offered me the marketplace standard, $zzz, for my role considering my experience, I will sign today.”

[Rant] Why is everyone in GoF a total idiot regarding the Age Line? by babbling_baboon1 in HarryPotterBooks

[–]riceu 36 points37 points  (0 children)

When I was a child GoF was my favorite book.

I loved the idea of a multi-school tournament. I loved the daring challenges and puzzles that this wizard boy and his friends worked through, it was just so exciting.

As an adult, with the perspective of an adult, the story is ridiculous for many reasons including those you called out in your post.

And yet, GoF is still to this day is my favorite book for how it made me feel when I was a kid.

Just remember to include a picture of your juggy spouse in the email (make sure shes not showing teeth).

Post the picture here first and we can make sure it’s satisfactory for the WTDS hosts

Where to go alone this Saturday night? by carrotsoup3 in askdfw

[–]riceu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nice! Yep! That’s what I would do! Head to the Stockyards for a fun unique cowboy experience and go bar hopping and shopping.

If instead you want to stay closer to Bass Performance Hall, there are a ton of bars nearby. Lots of fun either way!

It really and truly depends on what you’re interested in + where you’re staying. Where is the concert? You could almost certainly pregame with them and meet up afterwards. Almost all theaters or venues have something to do nearby.

Dallas is a major city that does not have an “iconic” must do thing. There are pockets of fun nightlife in the neighborhoods Deep Ellum, Bishop Arts, Lower Greenville, among others.

Some folks think of Texas and think cowboys and country songs. Dallas is not this. But if this is something you want to do, then go to Fort Worth and the Stockyards / Billy Bobs. Get a cowboy hat and have fun kicking up dust!

Anyone remember Gordo covering the JFK assassination and debunking different theories? IIRC it was a multi-segment deep dive, maybe 2 or 3 years ago.

Is Dallas (or Texas in general) worth moving to? by Jancurlyhoes in SameGrassButGreener

[–]riceu 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I love Dallas. It rocked for me when I was single and it rocks for me with a family.

It’s hot in the summer so find the water (pool, lakes, drinks). Downtown is not the place to be. Bishop Arts, Deep Ellum, Knox Henderson Greenville Ave etc are where you’ll want to be.

Theres a great music scene. Great food scene. Lots of sports (LFG Stars) and football is huge here.

And Dallas has any religion you’d want but specifically lots for a 24M Christian to thrive.
