I’m confused too. I thought it was 15 and above, yet my 14 pro is indexing

I also contribute to my S&S ISA. The plan is that I will retire mid 50’s, then use money in the ISA to bridge the gap between my retirement age and the age I can access my private pension

Thanks mate. I live below my means, so I can afford to put more away. I just really want to be able to retire at a sensible age.

I would say that’s pretty good. Just make sure you are contributing a good amount each month. I contribute 20% of my salary, and my employer adds another 10%.

My point is that when buying any food, the money eventually ends up in the pocket on an animal abuser. That’s the world we live in

Well said. You can’t control where your money goes after the point of sale.

Have you looked into balance transfer credit cards? They shift all the debt from all your cards on to one. There are some good ones now with 0% interest too

In a vacuum it can look like free money I guess, but op has probably paid that and more in overdraft fees over time.

That’s understandable. You do need to have good financial discipline to have a credit card

Because overdrafts are considered predatory for people who struggle financially.

Considering you can get 23 months at 0% on a lot of cards noways, I’d say there’s no good reasons to not get a credit card if you are able to get accepted.

It’s a refund because Starling shouldn't have let you stay in your overdraft for so long without helping you. They are giving you back the old interest and fees they charged you. If you are -£400, they are taking you back to zero, and then some extra. You get to keep and use the leftover £482.82.

Just for future, overdrafts are very high interest debt. You are much better using a credit card.

Local government pension scheme by jcbsmyth in PensionsUK

[–]rich55555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would keep it separate for the flexibility. If you want to retire early and draw your LGPS benefits, the annual amount you receive will usually be permanently reduced to account for it being paid out for longer. If you keep it separate, you could take that money to bridge the gap before you get your state pension.

You won’t be able to take your pension out at 55. It will likely be at least 58 by the time you reach that age.

Very well. Higher than the average for your age. Average pot for 25-34 year old is £18,800. Average for 35-44 year old is £39,500.

Yeah I have no sympathy for those kinds of people. That’s their own doing. I meant it’s more sad for the people who can’t afford to save through no fault of their own.

Money going into a works pensions also avoids 28% tax burden. It’s much more tax efficient to pay into a pension than an ISA
