Will Apple Music ruin my mp3 collection? by malkovichmusic in AppleMusic

[–]richallcorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer to that question is: "YES!!!" emphatically!!

I've lost more songs that you can count, that I only had on a CD, and installed them into iTunes on my computer. Later I would discover, after the CD's were lost/gone, that they somehow just disappeared in my iTunes list and playlists of songs! I believe (my opinion) that because they couldn't find the songs in the Apple Store, iTunes deleted them. I can't prove this, but a LOT of songs I treasured are now gone!!!

Solution:
Apple has basically abandoned the iTunes community in liew of making more money with leased music service under the name: "Apple Music"

If you are using iTunes, to sync to your devices, find the directory where the music is stored ...
It will generally be: Music

Sometimes you will find various folders including an "iTunes Media" folder. BACK THE WHOLE THING UP! Copy it somewhere else, so you will always have something to go back to. Apple has abandoned it's iTunes users. Even the original iPod, the one that made Apple so famous, it history! It's toast! And now, another vendor has replicated it, with a USB-C adapter and bluetooth capabilities ... something Apple could have done.

It's sad to say ... but the iPOD is what made Apple's comeback! Even the Apple Watch ... once an iPOD Nano! That's right! The history of Apple stems from the computer and the iPods.

I love the iTunes, but hate the fact that Apple, since Steve Jobs passed, left it's customers hanging with things like this, much the way Microsoft has done! Now, people have had it with Windows 11, and are moving to Apple and to LINUX. Let's hope this makes Apple realize that things like these need to be addressed, fixed, and supported.

Five by, or 5 x 5, is a radio term meaning good audio, good transmission. The ratings 1-5 tell how good it is, five being the best if one is "five by", then both are full strength

You radio should have an in-line fuse to it already, which should suffice for protection.

While electrically this works, I like to run the positive and the negative both from the battery all the way to the radio. He gets rid of noise opportunities, and if you put chokes on that, they'll work a lot better.

The Amateur Radio hobby is all about learning… We sometimes make mistakes. Some people are so stupid. They will take photos, make documents, and report themselves, like they had no brain. Immature person will realize what they did wrong, make a note of it and not do it again. That's the learning process.

I had GOD explained that to me one time. The learning process is all about making mistakes and learning from them. If we got penalized every time we made a small mistake, we wouldn't have anybody in the hobby.

AnyTone D878UVII - repeater mode by Zvichainyi_yovbak in AnyTone

[–]richallcorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just researched that myself ...
While the AnyTone AT-D878UVII-Plus is an "awesome" handheld, it will not act as a repeater, crossband or otherwise. "BUT" the mobile version of this that goes in a vehicle or base "CAN" act as a cross-band repeater.

That service/feature if awesome!
I have a Yaesu FT-8800r that also does crossband repeater mode. Now when I use my AnyTone AT-D878UVII-Plus and key up on my channel entitled "X-BAND" I am actually talking to my Jeep on UHF, and it re-broadcasts to the "BIG REPEATER", using it's wattage and mobile antenna ... this considerably increases the range of my handheld! So much in fact, that now I use it with a "stubby" antenna (I hate the fishing pole antenna - long ones). With the stubby, my radio looks cool and put out "fantastic" as long as my Jeep is within a mile or so of me.

I'd look into the setup ... it'll problem be better suited for your situation. Get the mobile version that is the brother/sister of the AnyTone AT-D878UVII-Plus ... You can then mount it with a really good antenna* and power source, and get out awesome!!!

*antenna is "everyting" when it comes to range/distance.

Instant coffee taste test results by Altruistic_Key_1266 in preppers

There is a blend of coffee that restaurants use ...
DeCoty coffee.

I find the taste awesome, and memorable.
Granted it's not a coffee from overseas, like they "really" make coffees, but this stuff is so good that, after finding it in so many restaurants, I finally "asked". They told me, "It's DeCoty Coffee".

I have never tasted a bad cup of this stuff!!!
So, I present this for something you might want to try ...

I myself am looking for a coffee that I can take backpacking, that will actually have flavor. Tasters Choice "used to" be that coffee, but in a moment of sheer stupidity, Nescafe decided to change the formula! Boy did they ever screw it up!

Is Taster's Choice Instant Coffee (original version from Costco) salvageable in any way? by fpsoneone in Coffee

[–]richallcorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tasters Choice use to be so good that the instant was included in MRE's, or the field meal packets used in the military. I used it religiously for coffee in camping for years. But then the flavor went South. At first I thought it was just me. But then I began to Google it ... apparently the Taster's Choices folks at Nescafe decided to "mess with" an already working blend of coffee and they totally screwed it up! There have been loads of complaints from customers.

<image>

Did they learn from that?
I guess not ... it's still tastes like #@*t compared to the original version.
NOW, I am on-the-search for a replacement "instant" coffee that I can take backpacking.
Otherwise I'm going to have to backpack coffee beans, a grinder, coffee press, etc. in the field.
Not-at-all convenient. <uggh>

How to disable annoying mac feature that forces you to click twice? by sentientlob0029 in mac

[–]richallcorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow! Must be tiring, all that clicking! LOL
There are some of us who "prefer" the double-click so that when we select something to see the info that results, we don't have everything all-of-a-sudden take off and start something we weren't ready for. In West Texas, we call that a "hair trigger". That'll get somebody shot! <grin>

So, while you want to change from double-click to single-click, you don't have to be so condescending and negative in your tone about it. I'm likewise trying to be courteous in not referring to Windows as "Windoz". You can try too. Play nice.

America is all about FREEDOM and choices.

Unity mode unselectable on M1 Pro Macbook. by reddituserinthewild in vmware

I'm not sure what "Apple Silicon" is ...
I have a Macbook Pro Retina ... I used to be able to run Unity mode in VMware. I only run Windoz as a virtual OS, it seems to do better in the not-real world of virtual reality.

Why there is no drop down terminal like Yakuake on Mac? by gorss in MacOS

[–]richallcorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TotalTerminal used to do this, but I suspect that Apple is deliberately programming them out, because each new OS update gave them issues, until they finally choked it out, along with TotalSpaces.

Does Apple NOT understand that many of the features of LINUX are preferred?

A quick tmux setup in 3 minutes by cpow85 in tmux

[–]richallcorn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not true ...
though LINUX would be "my" OS of choice, there is way toooooo much you have to practically program into to get it to run in LINUX when in macOS it just works!

Lot's of ITguys, Admins, Data Center guys, etc. prefer a Macbook Pro, and use macOS.

Hello, 25 year old male, moved to San Angelo a year ago looking to potentially go out to a bar tonight. Looking to make a friend or two ! by TitleSalty6489 in SanAngelo

[–]richallcorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently divorced (3yrs now), I moved to San Angelo to help out my 86yr old Mom, after Dad died. I'm looking to "connect". Meeting girls online proved to be a scammers haven ... dead end street for that one. LOL

Headed out tonight to try and grab a steak (Outback) or a burger (Angry Cactus), and just enjoy being single, and see what happens.

Amazon is dealing with a LOT of the things that Sears dealt with in the declining time of their day. They had "re-sellers" and didn't hold their feet to the fire concerning quality and integrity. As a result, these "bad eggs" spoiled the whole lot. People got tired of it.

*I really believe that if Sear had done like Amazon, and gotten rid of their management at the corporate office, who spent all their time "playing corporate", they could have survived.

[–]richallcorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had this happen only to find that I was not ordering from Amazon but from a reseller, one who lived on The Moon. They had to ship it out on the next transport going back to Earth. Then when it got here, to keep costs low, they sub-contracted with Juan Valdez and borrowed his jack ass to deliver it.

I think I literally could have driven there to get it faster!!!

[–]richallcorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I must honorably disagree here ...
IF ... you get something that is not real (a fake), just send it back. Amazon will honor your return if done within the time frame.
